Certain things come to mind when you reflect on your moviegoing experiences. The glitz of the marquee, the sound and smell of popcorn, the velvety feel of the seats, and that magic moment when the lights dim and the primary source of light is the projector casting its spell. What you likely don’t think about […]

Construction has gone vertical on construction of the new Disney Vacation Club wing at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, which is being built on the old site of the Spirit of Aloha dinner show.
Diggers have been used to create a shallow pit for te foundation.
Short concrete walls have been erected in the ground, but nothing substantial until now.
A tall concrete obelisk now sits in the center of the construction site.
A tall crane towers over it.
We saw crew members gathered on the ground around this first piece of vertical construction.
There are several rectangles of concrete on the ground around the obelisk, which is supported by a slanted pole.
Another, smaller crane is past the first one.
Barriers in the lagoon beyond the beach prevent debris from floating out into the open water.
Projected to open in late 2024, the proposed vacation ownership property would complement the existing resort and evoke the spirit of the Pacific Islands.
The concept art above shows what the new building will approximately look like.
Disney’s Polynesian Resort underwent an extensive refurbishment recently. While the standard rooms received “Moana” theming, the Vacation Club Studios got “soft goods” refurbishments, meaning just the upholstery, art, and such were updated.
The hotel received a new Monorail station and port-cochére. The entrance to the resort was redone as well to match the new structures. Kona Café recently reopened after an extensive refurbishment, with all new seating, decór, and more.

Alongside the Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort turned 50 in 2021. The resort opened on October 1, 1971 with Disney’s Contemporary Resort (Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campgrounds also celebrated its 50th anniversary, but it didn’t open until November 1971).
It’s also home to the fan-favorite tiki bar, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto. Guests don’t need a reservation at the hotel to visit the on-site bars and restaurants.

Happy Fat Tuesday! We visited Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter this morning for their annual Mardi Gras Pargo Parade.
Cast Members decorate golf carts and guests can vote for their favorites by scanning the QR code on display near the parade route. Last year’s golf cart “floats” were inspired by Walt Disney World attractions like the Haunted Mansion and Jungle Cruise, as well as by the resort’s 50th anniversary. The theme for this year’s parade was “The Legacy of Walt Disney World Resorts.”
Princess Tiana has led the parade for the past several years and 2023 was no exception. She was in a white horse-drawn carriage, behind the Walt Disney World Ambassadors and jazz band.
Each section of the parade was inspired by a different Walt Disney World Resort hotel.
These Cast Members dressed as pirates (with one small child dressed as a parrot) to represent Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.
They were followed by a pirate ship golf cart.
Representatives from Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts decorated their golf cart to look like a yacht.
The lighthouse from the resorts was constructed on one side and a “beach” was on the back.
They even built their own Cinderella Castle sandcastle.
Disney’s Port Orleans – Riverside had a more standard Mardi Gras-themed float.
Louis the alligator was depicted floating in the bayou on the back of their float.
Disney’s BoardWalk lived up to their name with a cart covered in boardwalk imagery and a giant box of popcorn on the back.
The front of the cart features recreations of Disney’s BoardWalk façades and signs.
Disney’s Wilderness Lodge had an impressive float with a large model of the lodge.
It even included the resort’s entrance archway and garden.
An opening in the side of the model showed a small version of the Wilderness Lodge lobby.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge decorated their golf cart with zebra-striped paneling.
A (fake) baby elephant peeked out of the back of the cart.
