The old Shrek 4-D and Monsters Cafe buildings are being transformed into Villain-Con Minion Blast and Minion Cafe respectively, as part of what will be Illumination Avenue at Universal Studios Florida. This week, we noticed crews had repainted parts of the attraction building.
We can see fresh paint on some edges of this side of the building.
The black brackets that hold signs were also repainted.
There are some spots that are still faded and will likely be repainted later.
Villain-Con banners were added to the main entrance a few weeks ago.
Around the corner, we can see some work on the Villain-Con Minion Blast queue down the alley next to The Brown Derby Hat Shop.
More Villain-Con banners have been hunt in this section of the queue, and shades now stretch across the top.
Back on the main thoroughfare of Universal Studios Florida is Minion Cafe, now almost completely surrounded by scaffolding and blue scrim.
The first scrim was installed last month, at this end facing the alley separating the cafe from the attraction.
More scrim is now wrapped around scaffolding in front of the steel grid that runs along the side of the building next to the street.
Some steel is exposed at the other end of the building.
It seems Universal is extending the building somewhat, or at least creating a larger entrance overhang.
A cherry-picker vehicle was beneath the new overhang, which has a tall ceiling.
Behind the new steel, we can see the broken edge where the old overhang used to be.
The construction walls feature Minions doing construction and make fun photo ops.
Minion Cafe isn’t unique to Universal Studios Florida — a Minion Cafe opened at Universal Studios Hollywood in March 2021. It serves various treats and meals with bananas, a favorite snack of Minions.
