Crews are wasting no time in transforming Splash Mountain into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom. More rockwork has been demolished.
The attraction’s signage remains in place at this time.
The construction walls have posters for Tiana’s Foods and the Southern Dome Salt Company, which are two fictional businesses in the backstory for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
The large crane on site is raised and ready to go this morning.
At the end of January, a small hole was cut into the rockwork here, and covered by mesh shortly thereafter.
Now, it has been reopened and widened greatly. Several feet of rockwork has been removed.
Splash Mountain was in need of a refurbishment for many mechanical elements and effects. While many of the effects will likely be removed, the mechanical repairs will still need to happen as the ride system itself will remain.
The hole may be for accessing parts of the mechanics or because this particular section of rockwork was in need of replacement.
There’s a lot of activity at the site today, with crews working both inside and out.
Equipment is staged under the bridge.
The scaffolds placed last week remain.
The birdhouses were removed from the queue last week, but we didn’t see any further changes (yet) today.
The Laughing Place sign has been removed from the nearby play area, which otherwise remains open at this time. The pressed penny machine featuring Splash Mountain designs was removed initially, but has since been relocated.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will replace Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom and at Disneyland Park in California. A closing date for the Disneyland ride has not been announced, but rumors indicate it will close in May.
