As previously announced, the walkway between Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort is now closed due to construction at the resort.
On the Magic Kingdom end of the path, A-frame signs state, “The path between Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and Magic Kingdom Park is temporarily closed. We recommend you use monorail or watercraft transportation to gain access to the Resort.”
The walkway begins between the Monorail station and docks outside Magic Kingdom.
It opened in November 2020, allowing Grand Floridian guests and visitors to walk to Magic Kingdom instead of getting transportation.
A reopening date has not been announced, though Disney said the path will be accessible in late spring.
We took a boat over to the resort, where similar A-frame signs inform guests of the closure and point them to other transportation.
We weren’t allowed down the sidewalk past Gasparilla Island Grill.
Check out our most recent construction update from Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, in which we were forced to walk through an active construction zone.
From the Monorail, we could see construction near the walkway at the Grand Floridian.
Construction walls are in front of the nearby building, with a gap for vehicles to drive in and out.
Some construction materials were stacked on the road next to the walkway.
Planks of wood were also staged on the walkway and one crew member was moving a white panel.
Reportedly, when now-former CEO Bob Chapek took over the Parks & Resorts division in 2015, he felt that the Grand Floridian was not up to standards. The comparisons to a Four Seasons didn’t befit the current state of Walt Disney World, and so it was no longer suitable as the flagship resort. But rather than shift focus to another resort hotel, the company decided to make changes. It began with the Enchanted Rose Lounge, which replaced Mizner’s Lounge. It was given a “Beauty and the Beast” theme. Cítricos followed with a new “Mary Poppins”-inspired design. When the Grand Floridian Spa reopened in January, it was revealed that it, too, had been remodeled. All the rooms of the resort are still being updated, and some “Mary Poppins” theming has been added throughout guest buildings.
Disney has also confirmed that the lobby of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa will be refurbished next year amidst the resort’s 35th anniversary.
