*NEW* Indonesian Style Chili Crab with Fried Mantou – $18.99
fried soft shell crab tossed in a sweet & spicy crab stew, served with fried sweet buns
The crab is perfectly cooked — nice and soft. It’s very spicy and not overly fishy. Great portion size, also.
The sweet bun is a great pairing with the spicy crab.
Overall, this is a phenomenal dish. The mix of sweet and spicy is perfect.
*NEW* Nasi Goreng – $6.49
Indonesian style fried rice with egg, Thai fried shallots, cucumber, and a prawn cracker
The fried egg is perfectly cooked and elevates the rice.
The prawn cracker has a hint of seafood flavoring and a little bit of salt; it works well with the dish.
This was another hit.
*NEW* Bubur Ketan Hitam – $5.49
Indonesian purple sticky rice pudding with coconut condensed milk, mango, and shaved toasted coconut
A weird but good sticky rice pudding.
It has a consistency like dessert oatmeal with mango and coconut.
*NEW* Bali Punch – $12 for 12 oz. single serve, $13.50 for 12 oz. souvenir cup, or $16.50 for 20 oz. souvenir cup
deBatavia Arrack Van Oosten Indonesian rum, guava and lime juices, simple syrup, mint extract, and Peychauds bitters
Fruity on the front end and licorice on the back. We didn’t care much for this. Both drinks here have a sugar cane straw.
*NEW* Java Cooler – $12 for 12 oz. single serve, $13.50 for 12 oz. souvenir cup, or $16.50 for 20 oz. souvenir cup
Batavia Arrack Van Oosten Indonesian rum, grapefruit and lime juices, and simple syrup
This, however, we highly recommend. It’s liquor forward and tastes like a margarita.
Even the things we didn’t love at the Indonesia booth were still good. Some guests may feel inclined to skip this booth since the names aren’t intuitive to pronounce for an English speaker, and the dishes are on the adventurous side, but we recommend everything here.
Universal’s Mardi Gras: International Flavors of Carnaval runs from February 4 through April 16.
