Former Walt Disney Imagineer Jim Shull has done some digging into Universal’s new family-focused theme park coming to Frisco, Texas, and shared his findings on Twitter.
There will be a public “meet & greet” with Universal Parks & Resorts representatives this weekend at Collin College Frisco Camp, Conference Center, 9700 Wade Blvd. The meeting is on Saturday, February 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. If you’re a local, you can register in advance to attend the meeting by clicking here.
Shull also discovered a traffic impact analysis for Frisco regarding the upcoming theme park. The report was prepared by the engineering consultants of Kimley-Horn. The project is referred to as P117.
In exhibit 1 of the report, the theme park’s site is highlighted in red by the intersection of Panther Creek Parkway and the Dallas North Tollway.
The report says the park is expected to attract 7,500 guests on an average day and 20,000 guests on peak days (like holidays and summer vacation). Operating hours would be approximately 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The park will have at least 643 Team Members. The report analyzes the peak arrival times of employees and guests to predict traffic patterns and necessary changes to the nearby roads.
Several exhibits show local roads, their traffic lights, and methods of intersection control during different times of the day.
This exhibit takes a closer look at the project site, outlining parking lots surrounding the theme park and a hotel at the center.
This exhibit shows traffic flow into the parking lots of the theme park from an access point behind the park. Guests would drive around the park to reach the lots and again to exit (the red and blue lines). Hotel guests (green) and employees (pink) would have separate entrances.
Concept art for the theme park is subject to change, but it shows a hotel with clouds on the ground and what looks like the DreamWorks logo at the park entrance. There are four colorful lands, also all seemingly inspired by DreamWorks properties. Camp Cretaceous (an animated “Jurassic World” spinoff) is in the top left and “Shrek” is in the top right. The other two lands appear to be “Trolls” and “Madagascar.”
Universal said the new park is “set in a lush green landscape and featuring immersive themed lands, celebrates Universal’s iconic brand of entertainment, humor and innovation and brings to life its beloved characters and stories in ways that will wow even the youngest theme park goers.”
