VIDEO: Marc Davis’ ‘Bat in a Birdcage’ Gag Removed Days After Being Added to The Haunted Mansion at Disneyland

Days after it was added, the “bat in a birdcage” gag inspired by original Marc Davis concept art has been removed from The Haunted Mansion at Disneyland.

This photo shows the bat in the birdcage as it appeared last week. It was added during The Haunted Mansion’s recent closure to the extended hallway next to the face armchair. It’s a birdcage on a stand with two glowing red eyes and bones sticking out. Next to the cage are two empty glasses that seem to have previously contained blood.

Fans of The Haunted Mansion might be familiar with this previously unused concept by Imagineer Marc Davis for a man-eating bat in a birdcage. The original art by Davis was created during the attraction’s development in the 1960s.

The entire prop is now gone for an unknown reason. You can see the empty spot where it used to be in our video below.
