Walt Disney World President Jeff Vahle released a statement responding to the passing of the bill that will allow Florida to take over Reedy Creek Improvement District with a governor-appointed board.
Here is Vahle’s full statement:
For more than 50 years, the Reedy Creek Improvement District has operated at the highest standards, and we appreciate all that the District has done to help our destination grow and become one of the largest economic contributors and employers in the state. We are focused on the future and are ready to work within this new framework, and we will continue to innovate, inspire and bring joy to the millions of guests who come to Florida to visit Walt Disney World every year.
The bill will rename the district the Central Florida Tourism Oversight Board and consist of a board appointed only by the governor of Florida residents who cannot have worked in the theme park industry within three years. The district will no longer dissolve the district on June 1, 2023. Walt Disney World will also not lose their tax exemptions.
