In a continuing resort-wide phase-out of Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary celebration, the Vault Collection overlay previously showcasing special merchandise at EPCOT’s Port of Entry has disappeared.
Port of Entry Says Farewell to the 50th Anniversary
The central area of the store, once featuring the Orange Bird in a centerpiece 50th display and a Mickey ear globe overlay of the central hanging ornamentation, now comprises mostly Oswald the Lucky Rabbit-related fare. Various banners along the ceiling of the atrium advertising the Vault Collection are also gone.
Additionally, regular EPCOT-related posters have returned. This reference to Japan was previously home to an image of Walt Disney presenting his early ideas and schematics for the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow — the inspiration for what eventually became EPCOT as we know it.
Conversely, this Norway poster had been occupied by an image of Walt’s brother, Roy Disney, at the Cinderella Castle construction site in what would become the Magic Kingdom. After Walt’s passing, Roy was the lead for Walt Disney World’s earliest completed projects.
A massive globe with Mickey Mouse ears — prominently emblazoned with “Walt Disney World: The Vacation Kingdom of the World” — has reverted to its regular design.
