Have you been looking forward to a visit to Shanghai Disneyland or Universal Beijing Resort while the pandemic has raged on? Well wait no more, as China has finally reopened its borders to the world in full to foreign tourists!
Starting March 15, Chinese embassies around the world will begin processing tourist visas once again, according to Reuters. This means prospective travelers can once again apply to visit Shanghai Disneyland and Universal Beijing Resort, but be sure to check with your local embassy or consulate for specific requirements. For US citizens, a visa is required which costs around $140, although prospective repeat visitors can apply for a 5-year or 10-year multiple-entry visa for the same price.
This also marks the first chance for foreign guests to visit Universal Beijing Resort, which first opened in September 2021.
China’s borders closed to foreigners in March 2020 amid their tight zero-COVID policy, which lifted late last year. Shanghai Disneyland and Universal Studios Beijing closed multiple times in 2022 as a result of the policy.
US citizens can also travel to the Hong Kong SAR and visit Hong Kong visa-free, with its borders having reopened to tourists late last year. Hong Kong’s government is also planning to offer 500,000 free round-trip airline tickets to the city in an effort to reboot the tourism industry following the pandemic and protests in 2019.
