Disney Entertainment Co-Chair Dana Walden has been named to President Joe Biden’s Export Council, a group of business executives, union leaders, and legal experts that advises the president on international trade relations.
The President’s Export Council serves as the principal national advisory committee on international trade. The Council is tasked with providing recommendations and insight into the ways government policies impact U.S. trade performance. Up to twenty-eight private-sector leaders are appointed by the President to be members of the Council.
CEO Bob Iger announced during the company’s earnings call earlier this month that Walden has transitioned to co-chairman of Disney Entertainment as part of the latest restructuring of The Walt Disney Company. In this role, the Disney Entertainment Co-Chair is responsible for overseeing Disney’s full portfolio of entertainment media, news, and content business globally, including Disney’s streaming business. A press release from the White House touted some of Walden’s accomplishments in the entertainment industry and as a business leader:
“Dana Walden is co-chairman of Disney Entertainment overseeing Disney’s full portfolio of entertainment media, news, and content business globally, including Disney’s streaming business. In this role, Walden leads Disney’s world-renowned, award-winning content brands and businesses, including ABC Entertainment, ABC News, ABC Owned Television Stations, Disney Branded Television, Disney Television Studios, Freeform, FX, Hulu Originals, National Geographic Content, and Onyx Collective. She also oversees the marketing, operations, distribution, and business groups across these brands and has shared oversight of direct-to-consumer, technology, and ad sales, as well as international content and operations.
A business leader committed to creating jobs in her home state of California and beyond, Walden oversees thousands of employees around the world whose contributions fuel one of the most extensive content libraries in the industry, on productions that generate tens of thousands of additional jobs. Walden’s purview includes some of the most internationally renowned U.S. series of the last three decades — shows like Glee, Grey’s Anatomy, Homeland, The Simpsons, and 24. Programs developed by Walden have won more than 1,000 awards throughout her career, and last year alone earned an impressive 288 Emmy nominations. Walden is the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from Harvard Undergraduate Women in Business and a Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Award from the National Association of Television Program Executives. She was inducted into Broadcasting & Cable’s Television Hall of Fame, was named MIPCOM’s Personality of the Year, is a member of USC’s President’s Leadership Council and the President’s Circle of the NAACP.”
Serving alongside Walden, the 25-member board also includes Beth Ford, president and CEO of Land O’Lakes; Jane Fraser, Citigroup CEO; Brett Hart, president of United Airlines; John Lawler, Ford CFO; Karen S. Lynch, president and CEO of CVS; Michael F. Roman, chairman and CEO of 3M; Rajesh Subramaniam, president and CEO of FedEx; and Qualcomm CEO Cristiano R. Amon.
