Although we were initially hoping we’d soon be able to take a train from Orlando International Airport to Disney World, that didn’t quite pan out.
Previously, the new Brightline train route was supposed to have a station at Disney Springs, making it part of its route from the airport. However, plans for the route changed, and Disney backed out of the deal for the Disney Springs station. However, the train will STILL have a stop at the airport, so here’s everything you need to know about that service!
What is a Brightline train?
Brightline is a train company that has trains in both California and Florida. Currently, the trains in Florida run to Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach.
Brightline trains are also high-speed trains, meaning they could run up to 125 miles per hour. That means you can get from point A to point B in Florida FAST.

Where will the new Brightline train travel?
The new train will share a corridor (known as the Sunshine Corridor) with the existing SunRail service. From what we know so far, the train will travel from the Orlando airport with stops in the area at Orange County Convention Center and South International Drive, and eventually on to Tampa.
However, although the Disney Springs station idea has been scrapped, the train could still make a stop somewhere near Disney World. However, further details on that happening have not yet been shared.

How would guests get from that stop to Disney World?
If the train DOES have a station near Disney World, guests will still need to use additional transportation to travel to Disney World. As of yet, Disney has not made any statements about offering transportation from such a station, but other options would still be available.
For example, taxis would probably be available to take guests to and from Disney World and the station. Rideshare services, such as Uber and Lyft, would also be available. Who knows? Maybe even Minnie Vans would take guests to and from this station, too!

How fast will the train go?
As we previously mentioned, Brightline trains are FAST! This particular train would travel at 110 mph between West Palm Beach and Cocoa and then 125 mph between Cocoa and the Orlando International Airport. During testing, the train hit speeds up to 130mph! That is SUPER fast!
Katie Mitzner, a Brightline spokesperson, commented, “This is the fastest a train has traveled in the Southeast.”
So what does this mean? Guests will still be able to travel through the state faster than they could by car, meaning some might venture beyond Disney World and Universal when they visit Florida.

When will the airport station be complete?
The 37,350-square-foot airport train station will be completed in March, with a ribbon cutting in April. We’ve even seen a sneak peek of the station.
However, service won’t begin until later this year, but the station will be ready once it starts! Brightline has said that the completion of the station and the start of passenger service “are on separate timelines.”

When will service begin
Service between the Orlando International Airport and South Florida is expected to start at the end of June.
That is, however, barring any unexpected delays. A major factor for the project starting on time involves the shared use of the existing SunRail train line in Florida. Because of this, Brightline recently received a deadline extension for grant applications while the particulars are worked out. Those particulars are complicated because they involve many separate local governments.
Here’s what could change or delay the start of the new Brightline service
How much will the train cost?
Brightline has not yet released details on how much the train will cost to travel from the airport to a stop near Disney World. We can look at the price of a Brightline ticket from Miami to Fort Lauderdale, which is the shortest route in Florida (about 30 miles). Although tickets are based on factors like demand on specific days and at specific times, the lowest cost ticket on that route is $17 per person one-way.
Train travel is generally very affordable and for those travelers who want to see more of Florida, it could be a viable option to do so, at least over driving or other methods of transportation.
