If you’re heading to Disney World in April, there are some key things you need to know.
A new menu is set to hit California Grill, Narcoosee’s will reopen, TRON Lightcycle / Run will become available for fans to enjoy, and 2 fireworks shows will be CHANGING. But if you’ll be taking a plane to get to Disney, there’s another important thing you’ll need to consider — flight costs. Just how expensive are they? How much should you budget? Let’s break it all down.
Our Method
Every month, we look at upcoming flight costs to see just how much they’ve changed compared to previous months. Here are some key things to know about our process:
- We limit our search to flights from a few airports within the U.S. to Orlando International Airport (MCO)
- We don’t search for flights on every single possible airline
- Not all flight schedules are included in our analysis
- We try to stick to trips that leave on Thursday and return on Monday
For our April 2023 trip, we picked a trip that departed on April 13th and returned on April 17th. Why? Well, when we looked at the flights through Google Flights (for flights from JFK/LGA to MCO — which we typically use as our starting point) the starting prices were:
- April 6th-10th: from $222 round trip
- April 13th-17th: from $137 round trip
- April 20th-24th: from $95 round trip
- April 27th-May 1st: from $94 round trip
We picked the 13th-17th because it was neither the cheapest nor the most expensive set of dates. But keep in mind that the trips later in April do seem to be MUCH cheaper (at least in terms of a starting price) so you might want to shift those trip dates around!
April could be an EXTREMELY busy time in Disney World, with Easter right at the start of the month (April 9th) and other big changes coming to the parks (as noted above), so you’ll want to come prepared for some crowds at least right at the start of the month.
Here are a few other things to note:
- Flight costs can change a lot depending on your travel dates, the airlines you choose, the airport you’ll be flying out of, etc. so just keep that in mind
- We used Google Flights to get our flight costs (except for Southwest flights)
- Prices may be different when you go to book your trip
- To calculate our “low” averages we searched for the least expensive departing flight and least expensive returning flight for each airline/airport
- We did the same thing for the “high” averages but looked for the most expensive flights
- The flight times, number of layovers, and other factors might not work for you
- We chose “Wanna Get Away” tickets from Southwest Airlines (when possible)
- We tried to only pick flights that arrive on the same day as their departure (no overnight trips when possible!)
- All prices are for roundtrip flights for 1 person

The Average Cost
Averaging the low costs and high costs, it looks like the average cost to fly to Orlando in April 2023 is around $317.63 on the low end and $742.50 on the high end. Averaging those together it’s around $530.06.
So, how has that changed from what we’ve seen in recent months? The lower-end cost is actually around $75 CHEAPER than the prices we saw for March 2023. It is more expensive, however, than the lower average for flight costs in February and January 2023. Compared to the average cost from April of 2022, this year’s lower-end flight cost average is about $21 cheaper.
When looking at the higher-end average, the average cost for April 2023 is around $230 CHEAPER than the flight costs from March 2023. It’s also cheaper than the higher-end flight averages from January and February 2023. And compared to the high-end average for April 2022, the high-end average for April 2023 is about $285 cheaper — a good sign!
Overall, it seems flight costs have gone DOWN for April of 2023, compared to both April of 2022 and March of 2023. But remember that the pricing can vary greatly depending on when you decide to fly!
