Did you know that the last pavilion to enter the EPCOT World Showcase in Walt Disney World was Norway back in 1988? That’s right; it has been 35 years since a new pavilion has joined the 11 countries featured in EPCOT’s centerpiece attraction! Every now and again, I like to take a moment to armchair Imagineer the next pavilion that could join the lineup. Will it replace an existing pavilion or be a brand new one to create lucky number 12? Is number 12 lucky? I don’t think it is, but maybe, it could be!
Back to the topic at hand, I thought today’s weekend activity could be a new round of suggestions for a new World Showcase pavilion. I won’t even cheat. Obviously, I am biased and have all my votes firmly entered for Australia; however, for the sake of the challenge, I am going to go in a different direction altogether.
This round, my pick for a new fictional World Showcase pavilion is Greece! I hope you read that in a mixed-accent-sounding Olympics announcer voice. Here is my pitch, the food. The end. Halloumi, Tzatziki, Calamari, Moussaka, Dolmades, Spanakopita; you get the idea. So much deliciousness all in one cuisine. If that weren’t enough, the culture, the music, the traditions, Opa! I want it all. Imagine a mini version of Soarin’, that flies over the Greek coastline over the Aegean Sea and around Santorini. There would be dancing and celebration in a My-Big-Fat-Greek-Wedding-style festival.
Short of Australia, that is what I want to see. Greece. What would you imagine for a new EPCOT Pavilion and why?
