NBA Commissioner Adam Silver Shortlisted as New Disney CEO

Since the day Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger was controversially reinstated last year, all eyes have been on his revamped succession plan in the wake of the disastrous Bob Chapek era. While many names in The Walt Disney Company executive camp have been bantered around, Fox Business is now reporting a new name that has been added to the shortlist, and it’s an interesting one at that.

Adam Silver, the current commissioner of the NBA, has been added to the list keeping in mind that Silver’s contract with the NBA finishes in 2024. The latest heavyweight to join the rumored shortlist has been involved with the NBA since 1992, bringing with him a law degree and a lot of negotiating experience. In 2012, Silver was endorsed by then-commissioner David Stern to be his successor, and in 2014 when Stern stepped down, Silver was unanimously voted in by the NBA owners as his replacement.

In 2020, Silver was responsible for the decision to suspend the current NBA season, later announcing the NBA Bubble, a bio-secure bubble at Walt Disney World that would see the sport continue in a limited setting.
