About Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster

rock-n-roller-coaster-111546

This fan-favorite coaster opened in 1999, rocketing riders from 0 to 57 MPH. The ride opened under the Disney-MGM Studios name. A few years later, the same exact track layout would arrive at Disneyland Paris in 2002, still starring Aerosmith, but with a slightly different storyline than the original.

The super-stretch limo ride vehicles feature a 125-speaker, 24-subwoofer, 32,000-watt audio system.

Each vehicle broadcasts different Aerosmith hit songs, including “Walk This Way,” “Dude (Looks Like a Lady),” “Sweet Emotion,” and “Back in the Saddle.” The classic “Love in an Elevator” was rewritten as “Love in a Roller Coaster” specifically for the attraction.

The attraction has produced lots of merchandise over its time at Hollywood Studios. You can purchase everything from T-shirts and hoodies to collectible pins, mugs, and even drumsticks with the logo on them.

The attraction has garnered some questions about its fate in the past few years after quite a few different things began to surface. Disneyland Paris changed their attraction to Avengers Assemble: Flight Force for Avengers Campus, leaving the Disney’s Hollywood Studios version as the only remaining Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

In 2016, 17 years after the attraction opened, the pre-show was digitally modified after reports of Steven Tyler making an “obscene hand gesture.” More recently, Steven Tyler has been making headlines with reports from a woman who claims that she was assaulted in the 1970s by the singer.

Actor Ken Marino, who was part of the preshow, kicked off a rumor that the ride would be updated to feature the music of Queen rather than Aerosmith. He later backed off the claim, saying, “I have no idea what they are changing it to.”

It is scheduled to reopen in the summer. Disney did not announce details about the refurbishment, but it would likely only include general maintenance, not any changes to the actual experience. However, this could change following the lawsuit against Tyler. Were Disney to remove Tyler and Aerosmith from the ride, it could potentially extend the refurbishment as this would require a near-complete retheming.
