Oscar-Winning Filmmakers behind ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ Direct an Episode of ‘Star Wars’ Disney+ Series ‘Skeleton Crew’

The Oscar-winning filmmaker duo of Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert have directed an episode of the upcoming “Star Wars” series “Skeleton Crew” for Disney+.

Known colloquially as the “Daniels,” the team was well-represented at the Academy Awards earlier this month, with their film “Everything Everywhere All at Once” bringing home seven Oscars. “Star Wars” fans hope their latest project lives up to their recent success.

Filming for the new Disney+ series began last summer and filming has reportedly been wrapped up last month. A full list of the series’ directors has not yet been released, but the Hollywood Reporter has reported that the Daniels will be among them.

“Skeleton Crew” is expected to be released on Disney+ this year starring Jude Law. The new “Star Wars” series will be set in the New Republic era. It’s said to be an Amblin-like coming-of-age adventure about kids, but not just for kids. It centers on a group of kids lost in the galaxy, trying to find their way home.

The series was created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford.  Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, the creative duo behind “The Mandalorian,” will serve as executive producers.

The news comes weeks ahead of the Star Wars Celebration being held at the Excel Center in London from April 7th through the 10th, where more of Lucasfilm’s upcoming plans will be revealed. The full schedule of panels, discussions, and more has been released ahead of the Star Wars Celebration next month.

Season three of “The Mandalorian” is currently streaming. If you haven’t watched the series yet, here’s everything you need to know to get caught up. The “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” prequel series “Andor” has already begun filming for a second season. The Disney+ spinoffs “Star Wars: Ahsoka” and “The Acolyte” are also in various stages of production.
