HUGE Update on Room Changes Coming to Disney’s Beach Club Resort

Disney World is constantly a work in progress, just like Walt Disney himself intended.

Beach Club Resort

At Disney World, EPCOT is undergoing a massive transformation, a new ride just opened in Magic Kingdom, a new restaurant just opened in  Hollywood Studios, and construction continues on new DVC villas at the Polynesian Village Resort, a restaurant in Disney Springs, and a restaurant on Disney’s BoardWalk. Now, though, ongoing construction at another resort has actually been extended.

The rooms at Disney’s Beach Club Resort have been getting a refurbishment, which started back in January. The original timeline for the project had the construction done by April 2023, but that date has since changed.

Old room at Beach Club

According to the Beach Club Resort page on the Disney World website, the refurbishment of rooms will be ongoing through late this fall. Disney notes that guests may see and hear construction during the day, but that noise levels should return to normal between dusk and 9AM. However, all resort amenities will remain available to guests during the construction period.

©Disney

Disney has not yet revealed what kind of changes are in store for the rooms, but we’ve seen other hotels at the resort get rooms themed to specific Disney movies, like The Incredibles rooms at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, the Mary Poppins Returns rooms at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and the Moana rooms at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort will also soon be getting rooms inspired by The Little Mermaid.

We’ll let you know if we get any other updates about the new rooms at Beach Club and what they might look like, so stay tuned to DFB for more!

Something BIG Is Missing From the Magic Kingdom Parade

Is there anything more iconic than a Disney World parade?

Festival of Fantasy parade

Whether it’s the fun smaller cavalcades (or even that one HUGE cavalcade in Magic Kingdom) or the massive Festival of Fantasy parade with its gorgeous floats, we LOVE a parade. But today, something pretty big was missing from a parade in Magic Kingdom.

Okay, so we’ve seen things missing from the parade before. At one point, Maleficent in her dragon form didn’t appear in the parade for a while after a technical problem. But today, we noticed something different. So usually, the first float that appears in the parade is the one with Belle and Beast on one side

The Princess Float

…Cinderella and Prince Charming in the middle…

Cinderella and Charming

…and Tiana and Naveen at the rear.

Tiana and Naveen

Today, though, when we watched the parade, the princesses were NOT on that beautiful HUGE float, but instead, were in a small float designed to look like a gazebo (which we’ve seen in cavalcade before). So the big float with the three royal couples seems to be missing.

They’re on a gazebo today

We’re not sure why the float is missing or what might have resulted in it not appearing in today’s parade, but sometimes these little hiccups DO happen. The good news is that you can still see the princesses, along with a few princes, during the parade.

If you’ve never watched the Festival of Fantasy parade, you should certainly take some time out of your schedule in Magic Kingdom to catch it. The parade runs through Frontierland to the Central Plaza and down Main Street, U.S.A.

Rapunzel’s float

The parade usually has two showtimes a day — check the My Disney Experience app for showtimes! We’ll keep an eye on it and see if and when the big float returns, so stay tuned to DFB for more!

Looking for some fun princess-inspired gear to wear to the parks? Have you seen our new Tiana-themed tee?

It, along with many other tees, sweatshirts, and more, are available in the DFB store! Click here to see ‘em!

“I’m Still Alive Because I Retired from Disney,” Says Former Disney CEO

Things with Disney’s executive team have been in flux lately.

©Disney | Walt Disney Company Headquarters

Bob Chapek is no longer CEO, a new chairman of the Board will be starting soon, some executives have left, others are set to return, and job cuts could impact many employees across the Company. And while Bob Iger has returned to the CEO position for a 2-year run, one former Disney CEO has indicated that LEAVING the Company is what may have actually helped him to keep on living.

Michael Eisner had a 21-year tenure with Disney and ultimately served as CEO, stepping down in September 2005. Eisner was actually one of the people who posted a welcome message to Iger when he came back, has commented on Chapek in the past, and has discussed Disney’s history in recent years (noting that it has “suffered” recently. During a recent interview with Squawk on the Street, Eisner spoke up on some Disney-related matters again.

Michael Eisner (Photo by Bryan Bedder/Getty Images for Nickelodeon)

In speaking about Iger, he shared that Iger’s return to the CEO position was a great move for Disney. But he admitted being nervous for Iger since Iger left with a “10++++ rating” and will now have a lot of headwinds to deal with. Eisner shared that he’s rooting for Iger though.

Click here to see Eisner’s full comments about Iger’s return

Eisner noted that Iger was “pretty right going back,” but it seems that leaving the Company was the right choice for Eisner personally. One interviewer noted that Disney CEOs never want to leave. Eisner responded by saying “it’s a great job.” But he noted that “having 20 scripts by [his] bed unread every night for 40 years (including paramount and ABC)” is a lot of work.

Eisner shared, “it’s kind of nice having a little more time.” He went on to say “I think I’m still alive because I retired from Disney, I didn’t retire from life…It worked out.”

Michael Eisner ©Ed Schipul

This isn’t the first time Eisner has commented about leaving and how that was a good choice for him. Previously, Eisner commented on Iger’s initial departure from Disney and said, We’ve talked about it. Having 50 unanswered emails, and seven scripts you haven’t read and 30 phone calls you haven’t returned…Getting off that treadmill is not a horrible thing.”

Michael Eisner Tribute Sign

So it seems that at least for Eisner, leaving Disney was the right call. You can see more from his recent interview below.

It is important to note, however, that Eisner’s own departure was full of controversy. Roy E. Disney (son of Roy O. Disney, nephew of Walt Disney) actually quit The Walt Disney Company Board around 2004. Why? Well, he cited a number of reasons including mismanagement by CEO Michael Eisner, as well as problems with morale, declines in investment in and business at Disney’s theme parks, the loss of creative talent, and Eisner’s failure to name a successor.

In his resignation letter, Roy E. Disney said, “In conclusion, Michael, it is my sincere belief that it is you who should be leaving and not me.”

©Disney

Eisner did have some great success at Disney but became involved in a lawsuit regarding Jeffrey Katzenberg (the former Disney movie studio head) and a severance package worth millions that was given to Michael Ovitz (he served as Disney president under Eisner for a brief period of time).

By the time Roy E. Disney resigned, Disney’s stock had been declining, and ABC TV was not doing well in terms of ratings. In 2004, 43% of the voting shareholders at Disney actually expressed a lack of confidence in Eisner. A new chairman of the board was appointed, but Eisner stuck around as CEO for a year and a half more until he formally resigned. It was Iger who then succeeded him.

E.T. 30th Anniversary Posters Finally Replaced at E.T. Adventure in Universal Studios Florida

Last year, “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial” celebrated its 40th anniversary, but E.T. Adventure in Universal Studios Florida was stuck in the past with posters for the film’s 30th anniversary still up in the queue. The posters have finally been replaced with more general “E.T.” posters, including artwork that matches the new interplanetary passport cards.

These posters line the initial section of the queue where guests split into groups before entering the building.
