It’s the END of an ERA – Come See the Last Day of the 50th Anniversary in Disney World!

Today, March 31st, is the LAST DAY of Disney World’s 50th Anniversary celebrations!

Cinderella Castle

These celebrations lasted for 18 months (!!) in the parks, and we got to see new snacks, nighttime shows, and everything in between. We were live from the first day of the event, which means we HAD to be live on the last day, so come with us!

Crowds

This morning, there were a lot of crowds entering the parks for the last day of the celebration.

Pretty busy

Hollywood Boulevard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios stayed pretty busy as usual.

Busy at Hollywood Studios

However, some areas of the park were a little quieter than we expected. Sunset Boulevard seemed a little slow, although this section of the park has been a little less busy since Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith has been closed for refurbishment.

Sunset Blvd

In Magic Kingdom, Main Street U.S.A. saw lots of crowds throughout the day. Tons of activity around Cinderella Castle is pretty standard, and the last day of the 50th anniversary is no exception.

So busy!

We weren’t surprised to see that the parks were busy today for this celebration — it does feel like the end of an era after all!

Entertainment

The 50th anniversary introduced us to quite a bit of new entertainment, from Disney Enchantment in Magic Kingdom and Harmonious in EPCOT to interactive 50th statues all over the parks! While the two nighttime shows will be ending soon, we still have a couple more days to enjoy them.

As for the statues, they were still scattered throughout the park.

50th anniversary statue

Edna Mode even made an appearance near her statue in Hollywood Studios!

Edna Mode

Another one of the best entertainment additions to the parks for the celebration was the Beacons of Magic show that dressed up all four major park icons in Disney World. While the lights have been confirmed to stay permanently in EPCOT, we do expect to see the rest of the 50th anniversary Beacons of Light ending shortly. We’ll be back to see how Disney handles the end of these nighttime transformations, so stay tuned!

Food

The 50th anniversary brought us tons of new food to enjoy throughout the celebration. While some of our favorites have already started disappearing from parks, there were still a few 50th anniversary items on the menu on our last day of the event.

We were sad to see that the Glimmer and Shimmer Funnel Cake had been removed from the menu at Epic Eats in Hollywood Studios, but there are still a few festive eats around the park today.

Glimmer and Shimmer Funnel Cake

You can still get the Shimmer Over the Moon cocktail and the Magical Beacon Cocktail at The Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge

50th selections at The Hollywood Brown Derby

…and in Magic Kingdom, The Plaza Restaurant menu remains unchanged. You can still find the EARidescent Sip-a-bration here!

Celebration Menu

The 50th anniversary snacks have been disappearing for weeks now, but a lot of the menu items have remained on the menu without their celebration decor. The Glimmer and Shimmer Blondie from Fairfax Faire, for example, is now the Toffee and Coconut Blondie. Same dessert, but no 50th chocolate coin on top!

Glimmer and Shimmer Blondie

We think a few of these favorites will probably stick around for a while, so don’t stress too much if you missed a few of them!

Merchandise

The 50th anniversary merchandise has been an epic part of the 18-month-long celebration, so it will be strange to see it go away! We still saw quite a bit of it in the parks today, however.

50th anniversary Loungefly

The Vault Collection was an ongoing collection of merchandise that celebrated the 50 years that Disney World has been open. This decades-themed merch still was on display in Main Street Cinema in Magic Kingdom today. A cast member confirmed that it would not be doing away tonight, so you still have a bit of time to stock up!

Main Street Cinema

There were also quite a few 50th anniversary merchandise displays around Hollywood Studios.

50th anniversary merchandise

You can still get a 50th anniversary balloon on Main Street U.S.A., but we were told by a cast member that they would not be sticking around after the celebration.

Main Street U.S.A.

We also saw that some of the previous store sections have turned into new 100th anniversary displays, like this one of Mickey and Minnie in Mickey’s of Hollywood!

Mickey’s of Hollywood

The 100th anniversary merchandise is starting to take over the main areas of stores.

Mickey’s of Hollywood

We’ve also seen some new 100th anniversary Collectible Medallions added to the parks today.

Celebrity 5 & 10

There is one in Hollywood Studios’ Celebrity 5 & 10 that features Mickey and Minnie, Donald and Daisy, Pluto and Goofy, and Chip and Dale.

Collectible Medallions

We’ll probably be seeing more 100th anniversary merchandise hit the parks soon, now that the 50th anniversary is just about over, so stay tuned.

We’re so glad we got to be in the park for the final day of this celebration, but not everything is going away! Some of the entertainment offerings and decorations will be sticking around after the event ends, so you don’t need to say goodbye to everything.

EPCOT Spaceship Earth Nighttime Show

Get ready to say hello to some more Disney 100 offerings that may be entering the park soon now that the 50th Anniversary has wrapped up, and stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Disney news!

Could this be a sign that Cinderella Castle will change soon?

Who Is Zeb Orellios? “The Mandalorian” Makes Another Connection to “Star Wars Rebels” with a Lasat Cameo

Star Wars Rebels fans were leaping with joy and pointing at their TV screens like Leonardo DiCaprio once again this past Wednesday when the Disney+ live-action hit The Mandalorian made another big connection to Lucasfilm’s popular animated series Star Wars Rebels. A Disney World Attraction Will Change SOON

We saw a LOT of changes in Disney World for the 50th Anniversary.

50th Anniversary Cinderella Castle

When the celebration began in October 2021, we got new decorations, snacks, and merchandise, along with some exclusive entertainment. When the Cinderella Castle stage show returned a few months later, it was updated to be a 50th Anniversary version, with unique costumes and music. But what will happen to Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire now that the celebration is ending?

Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire replaced the former version of the show, Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire, in February 2022. When the show came back for the first time since the park closure, it had some 50th Anniversary changes, including new costumes for Mickey and friends, new costumes for the dancers, and a new opening and closing song.

Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire

So after the 50th Anniversary celebrations end on March 31st, what will change about the show? We were able to confirm with a Cast Member that Mickey and his friends (Donald, Daisy, Minnie, and Goofy all appear in the show) will be getting a costume change. The Cast Member told us that the backup dancers will remain in the same anniversary outfits that they’ve had for the last year or so.

Magical Friendship Faire

The Cast Member we spoke with didn’t mention any changes for the music in the show, but we’ll make sure to check it out on April 1st and see. We’ll also update you with any other entertainment changes that come along!

Permit Filed for Work on a NEW Disney World Restaurant

A NEW Disney World restaurant is one step closer to being complete.

Cakes at the Cake Bake Shop in Indianapolis

Over at Disney’s BoardWalk, the NEW Cake Bake Shop Restaurant by Gwendolyn Rogers has taken over the old ESPN Club and is making lots of construction progress. We visited one of their locations outside of Disney World to give you a taste of what the Disney experience may be like, but now we’ve got another update on just how the restaurant’s construction is coming along.

The Cake Bake Shop has filed a new permit (notice of commencement) with Orange County, Florida regarding the construction of its location at Disney’s BoardWalk. The permit was recorded on March 28th, 2023. It is specifically for “the buildout of the Cake Bake Shop at Disney.” While that doesn’t give us a ton of details, it does seem to indicate that work on the restaurant would really be ramping up soon!

Construction in Late March

The Cake Bake Shop is identified as the Lessee in the permit, while Disney is identified as the titleholder of the property.

The contractor listed is Johnson-Lancaster and Associates. According to their website, they are “one of the premier food service equipment contractors in the United States and the Caribbean.” They’ve worked on everything from dining halls at universities to luxury resorts and stadiums.

Things Are Coming Along

They identify their “chief areas of expertise” as including “project management, engineering, design, purchasing, and commercial kitchen equipment installation.”

In Orlando, they’ve worked on things like the Three Broom Sticks at Universal Studios, the Contemporary Resort’s California Grill, various hotels at Universal, and more.

Concept art for The Cake Bake Shop

The notice of commencement was signed by THE Gwendolyn Rogers, president of The Cake Bake Shop, who we had the pleasure of interviewing some time ago — you can read that interview here.

We’re excited to see what work starts to happen at the Cake Bake Shop in the coming weeks and months. The new restaurant is set to open at some point in 2023, and will offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with sweet and savory menus. There will be an afternoon sea service, and even the option to get some things to go from the bakery case.

We’ll keep an eye out for more updates and let you know what we find.

6 Things You’ll Never See Again in Disney World After Next Week

It’s an end of an era. The 50th Anniversary Celebration is ending.

Mickey and Minnie 50th Character Statues

It started on October 1, 2021, and we have celebrated 50 years of Disney World for the last 18 months. For the celebration we got a lot of 50th decorations around the parks, new snacks themed for the 50th, new nighttime shows and so much more. Because the celebration is coming to an end, there are some things that you might never see in Walt Disney World again!

Let’s get into what will be vanishing from Disney World next week.

Nighttime Shows

On October 1, 2021, two new nighttime shows debuted at Disney World. At the Magic Kingdom, Enchantment replaced Happily Ever After. Enchantment’s last show at Magic Kingdom will be April 2.

Enchantment at Magic Kingdom

Enchantment gave us projections on Main Street USA and interactions with MagicBand +. Those things might still happen when Happily Ever After returns on April 3rd.

MagicBand+ with Enchantment

Harmonious was the new nighttime show at EPCOT. The show featured barges with screens, fireworks and some of your favorite Disney songs. It celebrated unity and culture from around the world. Harmonious will be ending April 2 and EPCOT: Forever will be returning temporarily until a new nighttime show comes celebrating Disney’s 100th Anniversary.

Fireworks in EPCOT

On the bright side, many fans are ready to see those barges go!

bye bye barges!

50th Character Costumes

When the 50th Celebration began, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald and Daisy all got new outfits for the celebration. These were the earidescent theme which were the colors of the 50th anniversary. These outfits will likely retire as the pals will no longer be celebrating.

Hey, Mickey!

They each had gold details too like Minnie’s bow. They sure looked great in these outfits.

How cute were they!

50th Decorations

There were so many decorations for the 50th celebration. Cinderella’s castle got a makeover, and even stores had decorations up. These will likely be gone next week and we will go back to the traditional displays.

Emporium decorations

We aren’t sure yet if the castle will stay the colors it currently is but we believe the 50th plaque and the ribbons will disappear.

Cinderella Castle for the 50th Anniversary

The decorations at the train station at the entrance of Magic Kingdom will be gone as well.

The train station decorations

Disney’s 50th Anniversary Private Tour

For the 50th celebration, Disney began a new private tour called The 50th Anniversary Tour. This was a private VIP tour that takes guests in groups of up to six across the theme parks and resorts in one day to touch on both historic and popular locations. In the morning, guests toured Tri-Circle D Ranch at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, which was an opening day location in 1971!

VIP Tours

From there, guests took a private charter to Magic Kingdom, where they lunch at Be Our Guest Restaurant. They then traveled to EPCOT to take a spin on Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure! The tour concluded with what Disney described as a “finale moment befitting a magical day.”

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure

There are still other VIP Tours being offered, but this specific 50th anniversary one will go away.

50th Cavalcade

While cavalcades might stay around in some form, we expect to see Mickey’s Celebration Cavalcade go away.

HOORAY!!! Mickey’s Celebration Cavalcade

These first began during 2020 when parades paused but on October 1st 2021, they became 50th themed. We will miss singing along to the “Magic is Calling” theme song. It was so catchy.

The magic is calling!

Snacks

Disney World offered a lot of new snacks for the 50th Anniversary. From the Toad Burger to earidescent covered treats, we tried quite a few new snacks. Most of these snacks could dissappear. Before the celebration ended, we started to see some of the snacks change.

50th Celebration Ice Cream Sandwich

Snacks could stick around just lose their 50th anniversary theming. We have already seen this with a few snack items.

EARidescent Sip-a-bration

As we say goodbye to the 50th celebration, we will see so many things disappear from the parks. For more news on the 50th celebration ending, be sure to follow along with us at DFB.
