Villain-Con Minion Blast construction has been coming along quickly over the past few months, and today, the installation of a large “V” began on the façade.
We noticed a new, giant orange “V” has been added to the exterior of the attraction.
The “V,” which presumably stands for Villain-Con, is centered on the front of the attraction. The empty space below it looks like it will be the future home of the attraction’s name marquee.
Just last week, we reported that the middle arch over the entrance to Villain-Con received a fresh coat of paint, taking it from gray to bright purple. Prior to that, some “Welcome to Villain-Con” banners, as well as some other decorations, were added.
Villain-Con Minion Blast is replacing the recently retired Shrek 4D attraction and is set to open this summer. The new attraction will be set at Villain-Con, and guests will be tested to see if they have what it takes to join the Vicious 6, a group of supervillains from the “Minions” franchise.
The ride will feature an interactive blaster and a motion-based pathway. Guests will help the Minions create chaos, and the more destruction you cause, the more points you’ll earn.
Also joining Villain-Con Minion Blast on Illumination Avenue is Minion Café. The new dining location will be replacing the beloved Monster Café, which closed back in May 2022.
Progress on the new Minion Café has been coming along quickly as well. Just recently, a new steel structure was erected and can be seen towering over the blue scrim around the construction site. The Minion-themed construction walls around the café have proven to be quite the popular photo op spot.
This will likely be very similar, if not identical, to the Minion Café that opened in Universal Studios Hollywood back in March 2021. Minion Café is set to open on Illumination Avenue in summer 2023.
