Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort is a moderate resort option at Walt Disney World that many guests love for its southern charm. It is located along the Sassagoula River with boat access to both Disney Springs and its sister resort, Port Orleans French Quarter. Join us today as we take a tour of a 5th sleeper room in the Alligator Bayou section of Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort!
Port Orleans Riverside originally opened in 1992 as Disney’s Dixie Landings Resort, with theming based in the American Antebellum South- including characters from Song of the South.
In 2001, the resort’s name was changed to match an existing neighboring resort: Disney’s Port Orleans Resort. Now both resorts have an additional tag to their name to clarify which is which. The original Port Orleans Resort is now Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter, and the former Dixie Landings Resort is now Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside. This change away from the potentially racial undertones of the name “Dixie Landings” and the characters from “Song of the South” was both a precursor and foreshadowing of the transformation we are seeing now of Splash Mountain into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
While many of the guest rooms at Port Orleans Riverside sleep a maximum of four guests, there are rooms in the Alligator Bayou section of the resort that offer space for a 5th sleeper. This is one such room.
Upon entering the room you will notice the two updated beds with ample room for storage located underneath.
The headboards here are the first clues to the room’s “Princess and the Frog” theme!
Following the same room design as many other Walt Disney World moderate resorts, there is an air conditioning unit located on the floor near the entryway. There is also a table with two chairs and a mirror.
Upon first glance, this piece of furniture underneath the television looks like a set of boxes ready to be shipped by steamboat down the Mississippi River. It doubles as a bench with some drawers for storage along the bottom.
The references to “Willie Inc, Est 1928” are a nod to Mickey Mouse’s “Steamboat Willie” debut!
Now, the big reveal. When pulled downward this piece of furniture turns into a bed!
The artwork next to the bed is a fantastic surprise, especially for kids. For many families, this may be the first moment of “Disney magic” upon check-in when the child realizes they get to sleep next to their favorite “Princess and the Frog” characters!
Louis the alligator, Ray, and even Prince Naveen and Tiana (the frog versions) can all be spotted in the artwork.
The top of the fifth bed allows for USB ports and outlets, the perfect spot to charge your devices after a long day in the parks.
Behind this door with a lily pad and cattail design is a small refrigerator. Just pull on the key door handle!
The fridge is small but enough to keep some necessities cold during your stay.
Continuing to the bathroom area, there is a double vanity with a large mirror, hangers and a clothes rod, an ironing board, and towels.
There is also a magnifying mirror folded next to the wall.
Another fun theming touch is this washboard. To see a washboard in action on your visit to Walt Disney World, stop by Country Bear Jamboree to see Ted the bear play!
Inside the water closet is the toilet as well as the shower, with tiles made to look like wood.
H2O products are still being stocked and dispensed on the shower wall.
The shower curtain features Ray on a dandelion looking up at “Ma Belle Evangeline”.
For an extra layer of privacy, a curtain can be pulled that blocks off the bathroom area from the rest of the room.
