We recently visited Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park and found that guest interactions have returned to the “Festival of the Lion King” show.
Since the parks closed in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we haven’t witnessed the complete rendition of the “Festival of the Lion King,” as the guest interactions were still absent. Disney has gradually reintroduced several components to the show.
In July of last year, the Tumble Monkeys, beloved by fans, made a comeback alongside aerial dancers who are adorned in bird costumes. The show officially returned to the Harambe Theatre in the summer of 2021, albeit in a very modified version.
At the beginning of the performance, the actors go on stage and split the crowd into four groups: warthogs, elephants, giraffes, and lions. Next, one of the four hosts invites a member of the audience to join them on stage and instructs them on the sound that their assigned animal produces. The audience member then repeats the sound, followed by everyone in that section.
This audience member is recreating a warthog sound. From the looks of it, rather accurately, too.
This gentleman, with his “trunk” in the air, was part of the elephant section.
Typically they will also bring out a child to recreate the sound of a giraffe. This little girl seems to have nailed it.
Check out the highlights below:
In the end, everyone in the theatre gives a rousing rendition of their respective animal. At the conclusion of the show, the performers brought more children onto the stage, with many of them carrying African musical instruments.
The Harambe Theatre, located in the Africa section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, hosts multiple daily performances of the “Festival of the Lion King” show.
