Grab your cans of spinach and head on down to Universal’s Islands of Adventure, as Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges have returned from refurbishment this week!
Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges
The swashbuckling raft ride closed back in late February for its annually-scheduled refurbishment, around the same time it closed last year as well.
Walls have now been removed from the bridge to Sweethaven, home of Popeye and pals. Guests can once again use their hard-earned cash to spray unsuspecting riders with water as they pass down the river as well.
Universal Orlando’s website describes the ride as follows: “Get set for spectacular splashes and lots of silliness! That blowhard Bluto has made off with Popeye’s best gal, Olive Oyl, and the only way to save her involves an 18-foot octopus and a lot of water. Hold on tight as you brave your way through raging rapids. You’ll laugh. You’ll scream. You’ll be really wet and squooshy.”
The raft ride has a near identical ride system to other raft rides at amusement and theme parks worldwide.
Meanwhile Wimpy’s, based on the Popeye character of the same name with a taste for hamburgers, has also reopened. Some crews were spotted using a cherry picker to access the roof during the refurbishment, and the space looks good as new!
True to its namesake, guests dining at Wimpy’s can get their hands on a burger, chicken tenders, or even a Dole Whip!
