Demolition and construction continue in Frontierland at Magic Kingdom as Splash Mountain is turned into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, with a projected opening of late 2024.
Splash Mountain Flume
Most work we have seen is here in the flume at the bottom of the attraction.
Sections of rock façade have been torn up around the track that leads under the Frontierland bridge.
We saw a few crew members on-site during our recent visit.
Tarp is used to cover the holes when crews aren’t actively working.
Scaffolding is inside the tunnel.
More scaffolding is in the other tunnel, but we haven’t seen as much work in that area.
From the bridge, we can get a better look down at the destroyed rockwork.
The inside of the rockwork is hollow with rusted metal supports.
It seems this crew member was working on something inside the rockwork on the left.
An extension cord runs into the ground.
Mountain Construction
Scaffolding and scrim went up on the actual mountain façade a few weeks ago, but we haven’t seen much work done.
Today, we noticed orange spray paint on the façade, presumably marking future demolition spots.
The line of spray paint is visible behind the scaffolding in these photos.
We may see the rockwork here cut soon.
Splash Mountain Queue
Most Splash Mountain signage has been removed, but the ride’s logo is still on the Lightning Lane sign. The construction walls reference Tiana’s Bayou Adventure with Tiana’s Foods signs and Southern Dome Salt Company stamps.
From the Walt Disney World Railroad station, we can see crew members working in the Splash Mountain queue.
No major construction is underway in the queue, but crews have been cleaning it up and removing old Splash Mountain details, like the birdhouses.
The shutters of the barn window were recently removed.
The window and barn doorway are currently covered with black tarp.
Splash Mountain closed permanently in January at Walt Disney World and will close at Disneyland later this year. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is set to replace the attraction in 2024. Read our complete history of Splash Mountain for a look back at the classic log flume ride.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
Disney says that in the upcoming attraction, guests will “join Princess Tiana and jazz-loving alligator Louis during Mardi Gras season as they prepare to host a one-of-a-kind celebration for the people of New Orleans.”
The attraction takes place after the events of “The Princess and the Frog.” Tiana’s Foods is an employee-owned community food co-op established by Tiana in 1927, following the success of her restaurant, Tiana’s Palace. The co-op is housed inside a salt mine, with growers planting crops along the old Splash Mountain waterway. Guests will ascend through a mill house built into the side of the mountain.
