More disappointment might be on the cards for Star Wars fans, with news from Variety this week that another movie might have been shelved. Fans were excited when Kathleen Kennedy announced in 2020 that Wonder Woman Director would be tackling a new Star Wars project. However, Variety’s sources have indicated the project is no longer in the works.
The Variety article went on to say, “…Variety has learned that a possible Star Wars feature produced by Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige is also no longer in active development at Lucasfilm.” This would be the second Star Wars future to lose its momentum in a short space of time.
Star Wars films have received mixed audience opinions over the last few years, with some hitting blockbuster status and others earning an embarrassingly low return by comparison. The Force Awakens hit theatres with a bang in 2015, going on to be a record-breaking hit for the Star Wars franchise. It was a different outcome for 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, which unfortunately fell on snickering instead of cheers.
With Disney cutting back on Marvel and Star Wars production, we might begin to see a slower but more mindful stream of content come from the entertainment giant, where the age-old tale of quality of quantity may just be restored.
