Yes, I know this title might be misleading because there are only two characters, and currently, they are on a stage, not hugging guests. Sad, I know. Even if it’s just a wave, seeing them is a must-do if you are in Tomorrowland. The two characters that do sightings here are Stitch and Buzz Lightyear. It breaks my heart that Stitch isn’t back to meeting guests, but at least I can somewhat interact with him.
These two take turns seeing guests on the stage near the Carousel of Progress, and the My Disney Experience app lists the times so guests can plan accordingly. Some people prefer distance meetings because not everyone loves to hug characters and strike up a conversation. I think these are perfect for kids who might be scared of the characters. It’s a great way to show the kids that they aren’t scary and puts a safe distance between them.
Buzz Lightyear
Toy Story characters are fan favorites, and after the Lightyear movie came out, it reinstilled that love for Buzz amongst kids. At Hollywood Studios, guests can meet him and have a full interaction, but if someone in your travel party isn’t ready for that or you would rather grab a selfie and not wait in line, this is for you. There’s a character attendant here that tells guests to walk up to the stage, and Buzz will make his way to you.
Stitch
Stitch is definitely a fan-favorite character to meet, and unfortunately, he is still just waving at guests. This blue alien is my favorite for many reasons, and I want to be able to have a full interaction with him again. Even though I feel this way, I still see so many guests enjoying this experience, and kids are excited to see him regardless of whether or not they can hug him. It almost looks like you are at a concert, and fans are running up to the front of the stage, trying to catch the performers’ attention.
I really wish they would bring both of these characters back to full meet-and-greets, but I guess seeing them on the stage while walking around Tomorrowland adds to the area’s aesthetic. It’s also a great way to ensure everyone visiting can see these characters without waiting in a massive line—enough about what I think. I want to know what you think. Would you like to see these characters have traditional meet-and-greets again, or do you like this walk-and-wave type of interaction?
