Disney is gearing up for a big holiday!
And nope, it’s not Mother’s Day or the summer season, it’s something coming much sooner than that…Star Wars Day! The holiday falls on May the 4th each year and usually comes with special celebrations and offerings in the theme parks, as well as a variety of announcements from Lucasfilm. So what news are we expecting to hear this year? Let’s dive in!
Back in 2022, Lucasfilm and Disney celebrated May the 4th in multiple ways. We got a trailer for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+, more information about how MagicBand+ would interact with features in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, a bunch of new merchandise, and several limited-time snacks.
We already know that the parks are getting some one-day-only treats again for Star Wars Day, but we have some other predictions about big news coming soon.
Star Wars Entertainment News
The big announcements that we’re mostly expecting have to do with the upcoming shows and movies that Lucasfilm has planned. We learned quite a bit about the entertainment schedule during the Star Wars Celebration fan convention a few weeks ago, but it’s likely that Lucasfilm was saving some announcements for this holiday.
One of the big series up next on the docket is Ahsoka, coming to Disney+ in August. It’s possible that we could get an official release date for this show, or even get to see some of the footage that was shown exclusively to Star Wars Celebration attendees.
There are also a number of other shows that Lucasfilm could give more details on — Skeleton Crew, season 3 of The Bad Batch, or The Acolyte. The company recently announced three new films as well, so maybe we’ll get details about those projects.
Whatever happens, it’s pretty common for Star Wars to release at least SOMETHING for one of the upcoming entertainment projects. We can’t wait to get more details!
Star Wars Theme Parks News
In the past, we’ve gotten announcements on May the 4th about new offerings coming to the parks, and it’s possible that we could get some news along those lines this year, too. During Star Wars Celebration, it was revealed that new ride scenes are coming to Star Tours in Hollywood Studios, Disneyland Park, and Disneyland Paris in 2024. Maybe we’ll get some more information about these ride scenes and the destinations and characters that will be featured in them. (We certainly wouldn’t mind a peek into the world of The Mandalorian!)
But besides the Star Tours news, there are some other announcements that Disney could make regarding the parks. For instance, Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular (the nighttime fireworks show) hasn’t returned to Disney World since the pandemic closed the parks in 2020. And part of Star Wars Launch Bay still remains closed in Hollywood Studios.
On top of that, the Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple show hasn’t returned to the parks since the pandemic. This popular offering allowed “younglings” to sign up to be trained in the ways of The Force, fighting Darth Vader and Kylo Ren in an interactive show. We know this option has been missed in the past few years, so many would be excited if Disney decided to bring it back!
No matter what Lucasfilm announces, we’ll be here to share the news with you, so stay tuned to DFB! We’ll be reporting on all the Star Wars celebrations in Disney World, Disneyland Resort, and beyond.
