8 Walt Disney World Rides to Avoid if You’re Prone to Motion Sickness

If you have ever suffered from motion sickness, you would know that this stomach-churning feeling is the last thing you want to experience on your Disney Vacation. While some attractions are more obvious, others can sneak that feeling up on you when you least expect it and take quite a while to get over. Here are eight rides in Walt Disney World to avoid if you suffer from motion sickness.

Mission Space – EPCOT

You might have heard this one before; after all, they offer a completely separate, less intense experience. However, I believe both options can be fairly risky for those with stomach issues. I am someone who can ride any rollercoaster, not easily bothered by my motion sickness in the parks, but Mission Space, Green or Orange, gets me every time.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train – Magic Kingdom

The swaying motion of the carriage might be a state-of-the-art addition to one of the newer rollercoasters, but for some, this feature can leave your stomach in cartwheels. Seven Dwarf’s Mine Train is a little easier to handle than Mission Space, as you are not confined to a small area at the same time though if you aren’t sure, don’t give this one a try just after lunch.

Expedition Everest – Disney’s Animal Kingdom

It’s all well and good until you start moving backward. That is where this Expedition Everest can turn from being quite manageable to a completely different story if you [think you might] struggle with backward motion. Prepare yourself for the change in direction and utilize all of those anti-nausea tips when the change of direction begins.

Tower of Terror – Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Being dropped at a speed that is so fast it is actually pulling you down at an unnatural rate is tough enough on your stomach; the part where it drags you back up can often leave you feeling as though you’re going to be sick right there on the spot. Tower of Terror isn’t for those with motion sickness tendencies.

Mad Tea Party – Magic Kingdom

If you are content with riding the Mad Tea Party without the additional self-spinning, then give it a try; if not, prepare for the intense whirling feeling from your least favorite carnival ride and the unfortunate sick feeling that came after it.

Star Tours – Disney’s Hollywood Studios

A Disney classic attraction, Star Tours has come a long way over the last ten years; with realistic motion and digital 3D effects, the ride dips and dives like one would imagine a ride through a galaxy far, far away to be. If it gets too much for you, try removing the glasses; that seems to help me a lot when I feel like I won’t make it through.

Flight of Passage – Disney’s Animal Kingdom

A similar simulator experience, AVATAR Flight of Passage, will send you soaring through the skies with an intense motion that creates the immersive feeling of being in Pandora while also testing the strength of your stomach. If Star Tours is too much for you, I would give this one a miss.

Soarin’ – EPCOT

I don’t find that Soarin’ irritates my motion sickness, though I have close friends who swear this is almost unrideable for that reason, so I include it out of sympathy. The larger scale of the screen, the ride vehicle, and the auditorium help to make this a more leisurely ride for some like me; for others, the soaring (excuse the pun) feeling of moving through the sky is too much to bear.
