Despicable Me Minion Mayhem Sign Covered in New Wrap at Universal Studios Florida

The “Me” part of the Despicable Me Minion Mayhem sign has been covered in what appears to be a vinyl wrap. Construction walls, scrim, and scaffolding have covered much of the attraction’s façade for refurbishment in recent weeks, but the sign has remained in view.

Back in January, a covered entryway was installed at the exterior portion of the attraction’s entrance, presumably to protect guests from falling debris.

Despicable Me Minion Mayhem Missing Brick

The concern of falling debris outside the Despicable Me Minion Mayhem entrance arose after a noticeable missing brick was spotted just above the entryway.

This morning, we noticed that the red-orange color of “Despicable Me” was looking brighter and initially thought it may have been repainted.

Upon closer inspection, we realized the “Me” had been wrapped in a vinyl layer.

Gru’s silhouette is in black between the letters M and E, but the word is wrapped in one complete sheet.

Small wrinkles in the wrap can be seen near the corners of the letters.

The wrap may be in place temporarily to cover ongoing paint work but keep the attraction name visible, or it could be a more permanent addition to the sign.

Despicable Me Minion Mayhem & Illumination Avenue

Despicable Me Minion Mayhem is a simulator ride that transforms guests into Minions, taking them along on Gru’s latest scheme. The attraction opened in 2012, taking over the areas where Jimmy Neutron’s Nicktoon Blast and The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera once stood. In addition to Universal Studios Florida, this attraction can be found at Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Studios Japan, Universal Studios Singapore, and Universal Studios Beijing.

The area where Despicable Me Minion Mayhem and Super Silly Stuff can be found, known as Production Central, is currently undergoing an extensive transformation as portions of the area are reworked into Illumination Avenue. The newly transformed area of Universal Studios Florida will also include Minion Cafe and the new Villain Con Minion Blast attraction. Both are expected to open later this year. Production Central is also currently home to Transformers: The Ride 3D and Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. At this time, the exact layout of Illumination Avenue is unclear in terms of dividing the area up as the Minions attractions currently sit between Transformers: The Ride 3D and Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit.

The back of Transformers: The Ride 3D show building was painted bright blue to apparently match the new Illumination Avenue theming.

Villain-Con Minion Blast replaces Shrek 4-D, which permanently closed in January 2022. Villain-Con was featured in the first “Minions” spinoff movie, and the ride will feature various villains from the franchise, including the Vicious 6. The ride will purportedly be a shooting attraction with guests on a moving walkway.

Minion Café replaces the Monsters Café and the Bone Chillin’ Stand. A Minion Café also exists at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Villain-Con Minion Blast and Minion Café are scheduled to open this summer.
