Disneyland Resort security Cast Members will get an $8 per hour raise in phases over the next two years, Orange County Register reports.
Disneyland Resort Security Cast Members Raise
Over 1,300 Disneyland Resort security Cast Members are represented by Security, Police and Fire Professionals of America (SPFPA). SPFPA represents over 27,000 security professionals in the U.S.A. and Canada.
The initial $6 raise was effective on April 1, 2023. Security Cast Members will then get a $1 raise on April 1, 2024 and another on April 1, 2025, for a total minimum wage of $26. Before April 1, their starting wage was $18.10 per hour.
“We are more than pleased with the wage increase we were able to negotiate,” David Hickey, SPFPA’s international president, said.
Disneyland officials said they are “glad to have reached an agreement with the union.”
“The attitude about coming to work has changed, and it has forced companies to pay more,” Hickey said. “We have negotiations coming up at Disney World in Florida. They’re looking to have a major wage increase there, too.” He said they also have plans to improve scheduling.
“With COVID-19, companies have had difficulty scheduling enough people when some employees don’t or can’t come to work,” he said. “Our union will work with Disneyland to have more input in scheduling. Our history with Disney around the country will help us deal with issues that may arise.”
Cast Members were previously represented by Independent Employees Service Association (IESA), which recently merged with SPFPA to become SPFPA Local 1955.
Hickey also spoke about updated grievance procedures. They have had two seminars about the procedures so far.
“We’re showing the old IESA members how our grievance procedures work because the old way wasn’t necessarily the way we do that at Disney World,” he said.
Walt Disney World Cast Members Raise
Last month, Walt Disney World Cast Member unions officially approved the pay increase proposal put forth last week to the six unions collectively bargaining as the Services Trades Council Union.
More than 12,500 Cast Members voted in the poll and 97% voted to approve the measure. This is nearly the same as the 96% who rejected the previous “last, best, and final” offer from Disney in February which led to Cast Members rallying near the Magic Kingdom.
Walt Disney World Cast Members will be receiving a minimum wage of $17/hour now, with $18/hour by December. Back pay of $1 extra per hour since October 1, 2022 will also apply to Cast Members hired on or before that date.
All Cast Members will also receive a minimum of a $5.50 raise over the next five years under this new agreement, with the first $3 coming by December 2023. These new minimum wages will also apply to all new Cast Members. By October 2026, the minimum rate will increase to $20.50 per hour for current workers, and $20 per hour for all workers hired after December 3, 2023.
