In a video interview with GQ magazine, Donald Glover said that he is still talking to Lucasfilm about a “Star Wars” Lando series.
Potential Lando Series
The Lando series was announced back in 2020 as a Disney+ original, with Glover set to reprise the role from “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” Glover didn’t reference the series directly but said in the new interview, “I would love to play Lando again. It’s a fun time, being him. It just has to be the right way to do it.”
“Time is precious,” he continued. “The past couple of years, this pandemic shit, it really had people experience time […] People realize their time is valuable. You only get so much. I’m not interested in doing anything that’s going to be a waste of my time or just a paycheck. I’d much rather spend time with people that I enjoy. It just has to be the right thing, and I think it could be. Lando is definitely somebody I like to hang out with.”
He concluded, “We’re talking about it. That’s as much as I can say without Kathleen Kennedy hunting me down.”
Glover also spoke about sitting down with Billy Dee Williams, who originated the role of Lando in “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back” and “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.” Williams’ advice to Glover was, “Just be charming.”
“Lando is charm incarnate,” Glover said. “He’s kind of a maverick, which I don’t think there’s a lot of anymore. It’s hard to be the smooth talker nowadays. Where’s the line? That’s also where the danger is. How close can you get without tripping over it?”

Lando Calrissian
Lando Calrissian debuted as the smooth-talking frenemy of Han Solo in “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.” Though he betrayed Solo and Princess Leia to Darth Vader — in order to spare Cloud City from death and destruction — he eventually helped them escape and remained part of the team through “Return of the Jedi.”
“Solo,” a prequel film about Han Solo’s origin, saw Lando as a young man. Glover starred alongside Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Woody Harrelson as Tobias Beckett, and Emilia Clarke as Qi’ra. Phoebe Waller-Bridge voiced Lando’s droid companion, L3-37.
“Solo” was a box office failure, a first for the “Star Wars” franchise. Director Ron Howard told NME last year that there were no plans for a “Solo” sequel.
In an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment’s Kevin Polowy at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2022, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy cited scheduling issues for the delays on the “Lando” series. She acknowledged that Glover is a “popular” and “very busy” performer, which has made it difficult to begin production on the series, adding, “if we could be doing that tomorrow, I would love it.” Still, she remains optimistic, saying that conversations are still ongoing.
Lando series creator Justin Simien (“Dear White People”) is keeping himself busy in the meantime, as he serves as director of the upcoming film “Haunted Mansion,” which hits theaters March 10th, 2023.
