First Look at Minion Café Façade at Universal Studios Florida

Some scrim and scaffolding have been removed from the side of Minion Café at Universal Studios Florida, giving us our first look at the restaurant’s façade.

The side of the building facing the main thoroughfare of Universal Studios Florida is still blocked from view.

But the side facing Villain-Con Minion Blast is now visible.

Some sections are clearly unfinished, but we can get an idea of what the final building will look like.

It looks like the façade will resemble multiple different buildings, like on a city street.

Right behind the construction walls, we can see some windows covered in black tarps.

There’s an awning sticking out over what will presumably be an entrance.

Here’s a look at the awning from the other side. Signage will likely be installed over the square holes.

Behind the awning, the building has been mostly painted burnt orange. The section next to it has fake bricks with three arched “windows.”

White tarps cover some of the roof.

Green weather-proof sheathing is visible on other sections of the roof.

These gray and red walls look unfinished.

The cafe sits right up against the buildings for Transformers: The Ride 3D. The back of the main building was painted bright blue to apparently match the new Illumination Avenue.

Minion Café and Villain-Con Minion Blast are expected to open this summer, transforming this section of Production Central into Illumination Avenue.

Minion Café also exists at Universal Studios Hollywood.

There are some similarities between the two façades, but the Florida version is much bigger. Read a Minion Café review from Universal Studios Hollywood.

The Florida version will reportedly have a similar menu but with a few different items. Universal will push mobile ordering at the new quick-service restaurant. They are now hiring Minion Café Team Members.

It’s rumored Mel’s Drive-In will close for a refurbishment this summer at the same time Minion Café will open.

Illumination Avenue

Illumination Avenue will include the pre-existing Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, as well as the new Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast and Minion Café.

Villain-Con Minion Blast replaces Shrek 4-D, which permanently closed in January 2022. Villain-Con was featured in the first “Minions” spinoff movie, and the ride will feature various villains from the franchise, including the Vicious 6. The ride will purportedly be a shooting attraction with guests on a moving walkway.

Villain-Con Minion Blast and Minion Café are scheduled to open this summer.

While construction continues on Villain-Con Minion Blast and Minion Café, the façade of Despicable Me Minion Mayhem is also undergoing a refurbishment. The ride remains open, but construction walls, scrim, and scaffolding are up around the entrance. The refurbishment is likely because of concerns about falling debris. A noticeable missing brick was spotted just above the attraction’s entryway in late January. At that time, a large covered purple entryway was installed, seemingly out of an abundance of caution. That covered entryway remains in place.

Production Central is also home to Transformers: The Ride 3D and Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. At this time, the exact layout of Illumination Avenue is unclear in terms of dividing the area up as the Minions attractions currently sit between Transformers: The Ride 3D and Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit.
