Listen, we’ll all admit — the Disney World app has a few flaws.
We’ve seen the My Disney Experience app crash and cause issues multiple times in the past, whether that meant Mobile Order wasn’t working or that people ran into issues with pulling up their tickets and passes. But today, Disney World had some pretty massive app problems that got in the way if you were doing…well, pretty much anything!
On the morning of Tuesday, April 25th, visitors had trouble accessing virtual queues, Disney Park Passes, Genie+, AND Individual Lightning Lanes in the My Disney Experience app. This means that at 7AM, when virtual queues and Lightning Lanes usually first drop, nobody could book anything!
It seems that the main problem was that Park Passes and tickets weren’t registering for guests in the app. Without both of those things, you can’t book a virtual queue or a Lightning Lane. We were given error messages when trying to join the TRON Lightcycle / Run queue and when we tried to purchase Genie+.
Disney sent out a push notification around 8:20AM letting guests know that virtual systems were having issues. Around 8:45AM, we could finally book a virtual queue for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. But we kept checking back throughout the morning, and we couldn’t get in the TRON queue. However, it seems that TRON opened for at least some guests because, by the time we got to Magic Kingdom, they were already accepting boarding groups 1-19.
So essentially, if you were trying to make plans for Disney World today, you likely encountered some problems. If this happens during your trip, the best thing you can do is to keep checking back in the app to see when things return to normal. The unfortunate thing is that refreshing the app over and over is definitely a pain and could be a hindrance if you have plans in the morning before you go to the parks — nobody wants to spend breakfast glued to their phone.
NOTE: As of 10AM, it seems that things are all back up and working in the app. You should be able to purchase Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes, and hopefully, the virtual queues will be ready to go for the 1PM drop.
We’ll keep watching to see if anything else happens with the app, so stay tuned to DFB. We’ll continue to share the latest from the parks and resorts so you know what to expect on your vacation!
