Disney has released a new trailer for the upcoming live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid.” The movie is scheduled to premiere in theaters on May 26, 2023.
New Teaser Trailer
On May 26th, Disney is premiering the live-action re-imagining of the 1989 animated movie “The Little Mermaid.”
Sporting an all-star cast, Oscar-nominated Rob Marshall, who is known for his work with “Chicago” and Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns” will be directing the film. The remake stars Halle Bailey as mermaid princess Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian the crab, Awkwafina as diving bird Scuttle, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Javier Bardem as King Triton, and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula.
A new character for the live-action “The Little Mermaid” will also be introduced in this film. Eric’s mother, Queen Selina, will be joining the tale.
Take a look at the new trailer below.
The new teaser trailer features Halle Bailey’s rendition of the popular “The Little Mermaid” song, “Part of Your World.”
Disney Hiring Halle Bailey Look-Alikes for Parks
We also recently reported that Walt Disney World was hiring performers who look similar to the live-action Ariel. They closed auditions on February 5, 2023.
The posting on the Disney Auditions website did not specifically state where this version of Ariel will appear, but it would be located somewhere at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Ariel’s Grotto at Magic Kingdom is reopening soon, but we think it’s unlikely she will replace the character representing the animated version of Ariel at that meet-and-greet. The new version of Ariel may do a meet-and-greet at the otherwise abandoned Voyage of the Little Mermaid attraction in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or possibly appear in a parade or show.
Disney Character Performers play before thousands of guests each day in character greetings, sightings, and other experiences across the Walt Disney World Resort. Performers sign autographs, pose for pictures, and help create memorable, magical moments with guests of all ages.
‘The Little Mermaid’ Original Animated Film
“The Little Mermaid” is a 1989 American animated musical film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. Based on the Danish fairy tale of the same name by Hans Christian Andersen, the movie tells the story of a mermaid princess named Ariel who dreams of becoming human. Unlike the source material, the protagonist in Disney’s version of the story is able to live happily ever after.
With the help of a sea witch named Ursula, Ariel makes a deal to trade her famous voice for land-faring legs and feet. Ariel must win the love of her beloved human prince, Eric, within three days or she will become Ursula’s prisoner.
