Major elements of Adventureland Treehouse at Disneyland have not been visible during the past few weeks of construction, but some of the tallest sections of scaffolding just came down, revealing the thatched roof of the central treehouse structure.
Adventureland Treehouse Construction
Green scrim camouflages Adventureland Treehouse construction from the Indiana Jones Adventure side.
Around the corner, the scaffolding is completely exposed, however. Green scrim is tied off to the sides, to be moved back and forth depending on what construction is going on.
The top few levels of scaffolding have been removed.
On the front of the newly revealed structure is a small balcony-like element.
Through the scaffolding, we can also see the hull of a boat that the Adventureland Treehouse family has repurposed.
The small balcony looks like it’s made out of metal turning green and the curved railing of a ship.
To the right, more railing made of dark wood is visible. Through the scaffolding, railings made of bamboo can be seen.
The dark railing is on part of the stairs that will lead guests up to the tallest parts of the treehouse.
We saw crew members on the scaffolding beneath the boat during our most recent visit.
Whatever they’re working on is mostly hidden in the shadws.
We can see two thick wooden posts at the center of the full structure.
Concept art for Adventureland Treehouse is on display on the construction walls. For reference, the triangular roof is the one we photographed further up.
Adventureland Treehouse
Adventureland Treehouse replaces Tarzan’s Treehouse. But before it was Tarzan’s Treehouse, the attraction was Swiss Family Treehouse, based on the 1960 film “Swiss Family Robinson.” It opened on November 18, 1962, at Disneyland Park and was an opening day attraction at Magic Kingdom and Disneyland Paris. It remains the Swiss Family Treehouse at Magic Kingdom, Disneyland Paris, and Tokyo Disneyland.
Swiss Family Treehouse closed at Disneyland Park in 1999 and reopened as Tarzan’s Treehouse later that year. After another 22 years of operation, it suddenly closed in September 2021. Disney announced in April 2022 that it would be rethemed and revealed the Adventureland Treehouse concept in November 2022.
The full title of the new attraction is Adventureland Treehouse Inspired by Walt Disney’s Swiss Family Robinson. Instead of being inspired by a different IP (it was rumored it could be “Encanto”-themed), it will have an original story about a family living in the treehouse on Jungle River. It will look more like the original 1962 Swiss Family Treehouse, including a water wheel at the entrance, but the family is different, hence the name Adventureland Treehouse.
It was also rumored that the attraction would become S.E.A.-themed. While it may not be an entirely S.E.A. attraction, it will still feature references to the Society of Explorers and Adventurers.
A “Swiss Family Robinson” remake for Disney+ was announced in 2020 but there has been no word on the new film since.
