PHOTOS: Topiary Removed, Barriers In Place as Dumbo The Flying Elephant Faces Sudden Refurbishment

Perhaps for want of a magic feather, Dumbo The Flying Elephant is currently stationary at Disneyland. We discovered the sudden refurbishment of the attraction this afternoon, following the removal of the Dumbo topiary out front and barriers placed around the flying elephant vehicles.

Barriers now surround Dumbo the Flying Elephant inside Disneyland, blocking off views of the attraction’s water features and its inner mechanisms.

While it didn’t appear that this was an active site when we stopped by, a number of cast members could be seen discussing the attraction’s current state nearby.

Located in Fantasyland, it has been a few years since the attraction has seen a major refurbishment. Its current closure was not advertised in advance and no reopening date has been officially announced.

Perhaps more upsetting to guests visiting Fantasyland at Disneyland today, the iconic Dumbo topiary has been removed from outside of the attraction.

The topiary outside of Dumbo the Flying Elephant has become a favorite for guests looking to capture photos of the nighttime fireworks. From the vantage point above, the iconic lit topiary stands in the foreground as Dumbo the Flying Elephant and the fireworks can be seen behind.

While the attraction isn’t necessarily a thrill ride, there’s something that draws guests of all ages to the classic attraction. Ride vehicles from Dumbo the Flying Elephant have even been acquired by the National Museum of American History because of their iconic status as part of American culture.
