Snack like Rey with the new polystarch puffbread available at the Milk Stand in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park.
In “Star Wars” canon, polystarch puffbread, or just “polystarch” or “portion bread,” is a self-rising bread made with polystarch flour. The wrecks of starships on Jakku contained many polystarch ration packs. Unkar Plutt collected the packs and traded them for scavenged goods at Niima Outpost. In “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Rey gets some of these packs from Plutt and is seen making the bread. Polystarch bread is also mentioned in other “Star Wars” media, including on menus in “The Mandalorian.”
Although polystarch puffbread is only now available at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, polystarch portion bread appears in the 2019 “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook” by Chelsea Monroe-Cassel and Marc Sumerak. That recipe uses vegetable oil, wheat flour, instant oats, sugar, baking powder, dry seaweed flakes, salt, pepper, cinnamon, and water.
Polystarch Puffbread – $5.99
Here on Batuu, the pastry resembles a croissant with a green-ish topping.
For the price, it’s a bit small. It doesn’t have a ton of flavor, but it makes for a decent snack, or quick breakfast pastry considering the Milk Stand doesn’t usually have a line.
The pastry was soft and flaked apart easily, while also making a huge mess.
It’s your typical croissant-like pastry with just a hint of sweetness.
The crusty topping has no flavor, but the inside was moist.
Overall, we enjoyed this but wouldn’t make a special trip back for it.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened at Disneyland in May 2019 and at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in August 2019. The two versions of the land are nearly identical, although sometimes have different minor offerings.
The main attractions of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge are Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Food and beverage locations include the Milk Stand, Kat Saka’s Kettle, Ronto Roasters, Oga’s Cantina, and Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo.
Shops in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge are Savi’s Workshop — where guests can create custom lightsabers — Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities, Mubo’s Droid Depot, Bina’s Creature Stall, Toydarian Toymaker, Resistance Supply, First Order Cargo, and Black Spire Outfitters.
Characters like Rey, Chewbacca, and Kylo Ren can sometimes be seen wandering the land. Vi Moradi is an original Resistance fighter character created just for the land. The Mandalorian and Grogu began making appearances last fall.
Disney scrapped plans to create a large creature, Elee, that could carry guests around Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge due to budget concerns.
Adjacent to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios is Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, an immersive “Star Wars” hotel experience that includes a visit to Batuu. Though generally reviewed well, demand for the pricy experience has fallen significantly since it opened a year ago. Check out our most recent Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser review.
