It looks like Tokyo Disney Resort resellers are resorting to desperate measures in order to buy more merchandise. Twitter user @myon3982915101 shared photos of a highly realistic fake baby doll that one guest was likely using to get around per-guest purchasing limits.
The fake baby was dressed up with a hat, pants, long-sleeved shirt, and vest, mostly covering it so Cast Members wouldn’t notice right away that it was fake. The guest even had the toddler doll propped up to look like it was standing next to a merch display.
It’s not the first time fake babies have been observed at Tokyo Disney Resort. A guest was caught using a smaller baby doll in August 2022.
Reselling at Disney Parks
When it comes to popular and limited merchandise, as many Disney fans know, resellers have been a big problem. In 2020, when it was announced that Splash Mountain was being reimagined into Princess and the Frog, resellers descended upon Walt Disney World and Disneyland and nearly wiped out every piece of Splash Mountain merchandise.
At the time, we reported that guests at Walt Disney World snapped up attraction merchandise at the Briar Patch store, leaving shelves nearly bare. Nothing was safe from these resellers’ hands, including Funko POP figurines, clothing, and plush characters.
In 2021, Walt Disney World instituted a two-per-item limit for most merchandise. This rule was later quietly lifted from most items in 2022, but it remains in place for new releases and high-profile items.
Resellers at Walt Disney World have reportedly had their annual passes revoked and been trespassed from the parks. Reselling items with the annual pass discount is a violation of the program’s terms and conditions, which read:
Such benefits and discounts are for personal use only and may not be used for any commercial purpose including, without limitation, to obtain or purchase items or services with the intent to resell such items or services.
Reselling was observed at Tokyo DisneySea last year, where some shoppers arrived more than five hours early to purchase new Duffy and Friends merchandise. In December 2022, Tokyo Disney Resort banned merchandise reselling and resellers can now be removed or banned from the parks. Tokyo Disney Resort’s updated “Theme Park Usage Agreement” lists “Purchasing products or souvenirs for the purpose of resale” under “Prohibited Acts.”
