Roller coaster sounds have been heard coming from where the rumored Fast & Furious attraction is going at Universal Studios Hollywood.
Twitter user Exploring Attractions shared videos of the audio testing near the walkway and escalators connecting the Upper Lot and Lower Lot of Universal Studios Hollywood. Turn the volume all the way up on these clips to hear the roller coaster sounds in the background.
Though “Fast & Furious” is already included at Universal Studios Hollywood as part of The World-Famous Studio Tour, a potential roller coaster based on the franchise has been rumored for a while. Reportedly, the coaster was being planned before COVID-19 caused theme parks to shut down and projects to be delayed. The coaster may now be back in development.
The audio testing is because locals are concerned about audio pollution in the area. Universal seemed to be playing the coaster audio at different levels, so they could see how loud was too loud.
Late last year, concept art leaked for this “Fast & Furious” ride and was shared by Screamscape.com. According to that report, the working title of the coaster is Fast & Furious Hollywood Drift. It would be in the Upper Lot, descend towards the Lower Lot, and then come back up.
Around the same time that the concept art leaked, Universal filed a permit for a geotechnical study, which examines the soil and foundations and analyzes the potential effects of construction. It is one of the first steps in moving forward with a project.
As seen in concept art, it would have a similar warehouse design to the “Fast & Furious” segment of the tram tour and Fast & Furious: Supercharged in Universal Studios Florida, but a coaster track would go around the building. The ride vehicles would look like racing cars, and they would have a drifting effect, so the cars would individually rotate with the track’s curves.
Screamscape compared the ride’s possible system to that of Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts in Universal Studios Florida. Gringotts was constructed by Intamin, who could be constructing this “Fast & Furious” attraction, too.
We stated in our first report about the rumor that this “Fast & Furious” coaster was probably on hold until the completion of Super Nintendo World. Well, Super Nintendo World has now opened at Universal Studios Hollywood, so construction could begin soon on the new coaster.
A successful “Fast & Furious” ride at Universal Studios Hollywood could mean replacing the infamous Fast & Furious: Supercharged ride in Universal Orlando Resort too.
Fast & Furious: Supercharged
Fast & Furious: Supercharged at Universal Orlando Resort is a duplicate of the “Fast & Furious” section of the tram tour at Universal Studios Hollywood. Multiple pre-shows were added to the Universal Studios Florida version to pad it out, but it still received overall negative reviews.
In 2022, a Universal senior executive even acknowledged under oath that Fast & Furious: Supercharged isn’t so great.
Fast & Furious: Supercharged is in the San Francisco area of Universal Studios Florida, replacing Disaster! It opened in the spring of 2018 and Universal announced soon after that it would be an attraction at the upcoming Universal Studios Beijing, too. Following the negative feedback in Florida, however, the Beijing version was canceled.
