When most people think of Disney World, chances are they don’t think of swanky bars, strong cocktails, and daring eats — but maybe they should.
Over in Disney Springs, you’ll find The Edison. This restaurant features classic American food, craft cocktails, and live entertainment including cabaret, music, and more in the evenings. Not only that, but it’s one of our favorite places to catch special events — and, we just so happen to be bringing you with us to experience one!
The next time you’re looking to step up your Disney World trip — consider checking out The Edison in Disney Springs! This restaurant features delicious food, drinks, and even has special entertainment and events. We were lucky enough to be invited by The Edison to check out their Whiskey & Wonder event!
This year’s Whiskey & Wonder was held on Saturday, April 15th. This was a ticketed, private event that featured exclusive whiskey tastings along with delicious small bites to eat! Some of the drinks even featured a bit of magic, like this liquid nitrogen.
There were quite a few stations set up, each with a whiskey drink paired with a sampling of the yummy eats you might find on the menu, though not everything we tried is available on the regular menu.
Our personal favorite pairing was the Woodford Reserve Mint Julep with barbecue ribs.
The sweetness of the mint julep was so nice with the smokiness of the ribs, and the ribs were made with a whiskey glaze which gave them a little sticky sweetness as well.
We tried the Teeling Irish Coffee, made with Teeling Irish Whiskey. This was delicious — more like a dessert than a drink. There were some chocolate notes along with the coffee, but the whiskey certainly made itself known as well. It went down pretty smoothly — a little too smoothly, maybe.
It was paired with a Tiramisu that wasn’t too sweet, but had the same coffee and chocolate notes as the drink. It was light and made for a nice treat amongst all the savory flavors we tried at this event.
Next up was the Angel’s Envy Smoked Old Fashioned, and it was excellent. The bourbon itself was a bit on the sweet side and when paired with the orange mist and peel brought out the citrus notes in it. We loved the smokiness of this drink, it added a bit more depth than what you might expect from a regular old-fashioned.
This was paired with The Edison’s famous Clothesline Candied Bacon — which was smoked with a torch right in front of our eyes. Not only was it literally like eating candy, but it’s always a good day when you watch your food get torched on a clothesline.
The Toki Highball was extremely light and refreshing. There was a carbonation factor here that reminded us of a citrusy soda like Sprite, but the whiskey helped cut down on any sweetness. We loved the fruity and floral notes in this drink!
The Yakitori Style Teriyaki Chicken wings were incredibly flavorful, and we loved that they were prepared fresh on the Yakitori grill. The teriyaki sauce was sweet and salty, while the Yakitori lent a charred flavor thanks to the grill. We probably could have eaten a lot more of these!
We also sampled some Johnnie Walker Blue, which is often described as having notes of vanilla and honey. For a Scotch Whisky, this is so, so smooth and hardly has any bite. There’s a peatiness you’ll find in most Scotches, but something about this one makes it stand out. It’s not sweet like bourbon or other whiskeys, but it is delicious all the same.
The Smoked Whiskey Chocolate Truffle was the perfect after-Scotch treat. We didn’t get too much of the smokiness, but it was still a very good truffle that chocolate lovers would absolutely enjoy.
Next, we tried the Bulleit Bourbon Porthole cocktail, which was definitely the most non-whiskey-drinker-friendly drink we had at the event. It was rather fruity and sweet, so if that’s your style you might like this. We do wish the bourbon would have been a bit more prominent here, but overall it was still a good cocktail.
The porthole drink was paired with an incredible flatbread made with warm brie, tomato jam, and Bulleit maple. The tomato jam was the star of the show here — who knew what is essentially ketchup could taste like that?! The brie was melty and quite good as well, though we didn’t notice much of a maple flavor.
Finally, we had the Chili Lime Ceviche Mini Tacos. We’ve eaten a lot of tacos in our day, and this one was on the unique side! The taco shell was made from a wonton wrapper, and the flavors were so, so fresh. The pico de gallo was tangy but didn’t have a big kick, while the ceviche was flavorful, citrusy, and delicious.
While this event is over, The Edison is always a happening place to be and we’ll be keeping an eye out for more special events! In the meantime, consider stopping by on your next Disney World trip for something a bit more swanky. You won’t be disappointed!
