I was looking through some photos from a Disney Cruise Line adventure last week, and I was struck by a sense of excitement. There is something about the approach taken to family events and themeing while onboard a Disney ship that makes everything feel extra special. Of course, it got me thinking about the comparison to a Walt Disney World vacation. After hours of procrastinating through the workload I had that day, I concluded that nothing was stopping us from adding that same level of enjoyment to a Disney theme park trip in a similar fashion to the encouraged dress-up events onboard.
Between Disney-Bounding and Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique makeovers, there is already a themed fashion element that is widely accepted within the parks. As long as we respect Disney’s no-character dress code, we can take that a step further. If you want to add a new level of enjoyment and connectivity to your Disney vacation, I have an idea that might make your next trip to the magic the most enchanting of all.

Let’s start slowly by choosing one day on your trip to which you would like to add a little extra sparkle. It might be a birthday, an anniversary, or simply a random day you look forward to. We will add a character theme to your day, so if you are visiting a park with a corresponding storyline, be sure to match those up. Picking a theme can be tricky; you’ll want something that resonates with your family’s interests. I would consider a selection with a broader sense of characters like Toy Story or Star Wars, where there are lots of personalities that you can each identify with.

Once you know what you are planning for and what day you aim to implement the theme-of-the-day plan, it’s time to start a family activity in the lead-up to your trip. This is a great way to count down the days and have a lot of fun while you wait. It’s time to plan your outfits! Pay close attention to your storyline and use items of clothing already in your wardrobe and a few perfect new accessories to pull off the perfect Disney-Bounding look. Rather than dressing identically as a character, the idea is to use their personality as inspiration for an outfit. There are some outstanding social media accounts to check out if you need some fresh ideas as well. You can take this process as far as you like; even start a mood board with magazine clippings if it helps to engage your teenagers.
When the day comes for you to take on the characters you have chosen, be sure to get as many photos as possible, especially in those similarly themed areas around the parks. This next-level Disney tactic will make for extra special shots and new memories you’ll never forget.
