While many of the bronze medallions across the Esplanade have turned a darker color as they near 20 years old, some on the other hand look brand-new.

A closer inspection reveals that they are in fact new replacements, with the gold-colored medallions replicated for those who’ve had theirs stolen over the years. The design is exactly the same for the new ones as the old, with the Disneyland Resort 50th Anniversary “Happiest Homecoming on Earth” logo depicted with raised lettering and designs.

Families who bought pavers in the Walk of Magical Memories between 2000 and 2011 had the ability to get their name, hometown, a date, and a special design commemorating the year of installation, all for $150. During the Disneyland Resort 50th Anniversary celebration from 2005 to 2006, guests could have a special bronze medallion installed in their brick, which many across the resort received. The program ended in February 2011.

But in recent years as the bricks have aged, some individuals have taken to stealing these medallions out of innocent guests’ bricks in the Esplanade, leaving only hollow concrete holes in their place.

The original bronze medallions which remain are starting to show their age, with some turning white and black after 17 to 18 years in the elements — already much longer than the guaranteed ten years of installation.
