It comes as a surprise to none that Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is a fan-favorite ride for many Disney fans, and is often responsible for bringing fans to Galaxy’s Edge at both Disney World and Disneyland. (I mean, that line alone can testify to how popular this ride is!)
With lifelike animatronics, stunning visuals, and a trackless ride path that amazes us to this day, it isn’t surprising that Disney and Star Wars fans seek out this ride experience again and again. With attractions like this one, it’s difficult to imagine the endless work that goes into its creation. Also — how much does creating a ride like this COST?
While Disney hasn’t released an exact cost for the ride, there have been several estimates that have ranged from $200 to $450 million — and that’s for each version of the ride rather than a total. What goes into these high costs, though? Let’s check it out!
According to Blooloop, permits filed during the construction of the ride in Disneyland put the cost at $78 million. However, that’s only the cost of the construction, and doesn’t include staff time, computer systems, or soft costs — like the furnishings inside. Ride vehicles, animatronics, costuming, and more also require additional costs.
Audio-animatronics are another item that can really drive up the cost of creating rides. They can cost upwards of $1 million each. In case you were curious, Rise of the Resistance has 65 audio-animatronics. That’s right — we’re looking at upwards $65 million just to hear beloved characters like Po Dameron, Rey, and Kylo Ren speak!
The higher estimate of $450 million comes from a former Disney employee who worked on the project, which was initially reported in the Wall Street Journal.
Former Disney Imagineer Jim Shull told the Wall Street Journal that Rise of the Resistance was an “intent to visit” attraction, which means that its existence alone could motivate people to visit a Disney Park.
As far as how much it costs to ride Rise of the Resistance, it really depends on crowds and time of the year. Throughout the peak summer months and winter holidays, you can expect to see the Individual Lightning Lane costs peak at or around $25, while in the slower months, the price will typically be around $17.
What do you say? Will you be installing your own thrill ride complete with audio-animatronics and hydraulic lifts in your back yard? (Haha– just kidding. But if you do, let us know.) We’ll continue to keep you updated with Disney news, fun facts, and updates. Make sure to follow along for more!
