Well, today is the day, and the end of an era.
A classic Disneyland attraction, Splash Mountain, is set to permanently close so Disney Imagineers can reimagine it as a NEW attraction, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, based on The Princess and the Frog. Its Splash Mountain counterpart in Disney World closed in January 2023 and construction is already underway for the new attraction. But what does the last day of Splash Mountain in Disneyland look like? Let’s take a look!
When we arrived at Disneyland this morning, people were already lined up at the gates to get inside and get one more ride in with Br’er Rabbit and his friends. Check out all those people waiting to get in — even on a chilly, dreary morning!
Folks were clearly making a beeline for Splash Mountain, and we followed the crowds as we passed under the train tunnel.
As we moved further into the park, things only seemed to get worse! We turned around and were greeted by a massive wall of people as far as the eye could see. But then, soon enough, we saw the object of our desire…

…Splash Mountain! So, of course, we had to hop in line to say goodbye and ride this attraction one more time before it closes in Disneyland FOREVER.
Despite the wait time showing 5 minutes, we confirmed with a Cast Member when we hopped in line that the wait was actually right around an hour. But, if you ask us, that’s still not bad for the crowds we’ve seen.

As we moved further through the line, we could see just how far it stretched into the park — things seem to be getting a bit busier out there!
Disney has shared that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will pick up the story of The Princess and the Frog “after the final kiss, and join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.”
The story of the attraction, as Disney shares, picks up during New Orleans’ Carnival season, and Tiana is hosting a Mardi Gras Party for the people of New Orleans — the community that has supported her successful restaurant. (The storyline is set about a year after the movie.)
And YOU will join Tiana, too, as Disney Imagineers have shared that guests will be active participants coming along with Tiana on this adventure! “On Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, we’ll join Tiana and Louis on a trip to the bayou, where they meet all sorts of unexpected new friends who have a special role to play at the party.”
We expected long lines today, so we’re not TOO surprised, but if you are headed to Splash Mountain, be prepared to wait. After tomorrow, you’ll just have to count down the days until the ride becomes Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which we know won’t open until at least 2024.
