In the market for a new house? Things are looking pretty dismal on the housing market, but not as dismal as accidentally buying a haunted house!

That seems to be a problem for the lead characters in Disney’s new adaptation of The Haunted Mansion, which will be premiering on July 28th, 2023. We’ve had a few inside peeks at what we can expect from the film, but now we’ve got a first look at what one of the most iconic characters from the ride will look like!

Disney’s newest Haunted Mansion movie will follow a doctor and her son as they look to start a new life. The pair moves into a mansion in New Orleans but quickly discovers that the place is not quite what it seems. Stars like Jamie Lee Curtis, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, and Jared Leto will play a role in the film.

Jamie Lee Curtis has signed on to play the iconic role of Madame Leota, and we just got a new look at what the character will look like. We saw a tiny sneak peek of Curtis as Leota in a trailer released by Disney, but her classic disembodied head is what we’ve been waiting to see, and here it is!

According to Entertainment Weekly, director Justin Simien “knew he had to be selective about which of the grim grinning ghosts he wanted to check in” for the new adaptation of the ride, and “he ultimately balanced the ride’s extensive lore with a fresh take on a classic property” by putting Jamie Lee Curtis’ head inside a crystal ball.

Simien says Curtis’ take on Madame Leota is both “subversive” and “funny,” but has “the gravitas you’d expect” from the character. “She starts off as one of the relics, one of the items, one of the aspects of the house that has to be discovered, but becomes a functional character and a useful ally in the film,” he shared.

But, the story surrounding Leota in this version is “entirely new,” though he did draw inspiration from the original Disneyland ride along with the backstory Walt Disney himself oversaw before passing.

One thing’s for sure — we can’t wait to see Curtis’ take on Madame Leota, along with the rest of the cast of characters in this new film. We’ll be on the lookout for the latest Disney movie, theme park, and more news, so stay tuned to DFB!
