Shakespeare asked, “What’s in a name?” in his masterpiece, Romeo & Juliet, and it’s a question that popped into my head when I saw the news that there were new Walt Disney World name tags on the way a few weeks ago. While to some businesses, these tags may identify employees to their customers; when it comes to Disney, these name tags mean so much more. Worn like a badge of honor, each one represents each individual’s journey to becoming a part of the Walt Disney World family. These pins are treasured by cast members and guests alike, with many fans enjoying being able to see where each person has come from, near or far, to join in this celebrated Disney community.
Costume designer, Joshua Winchester, was recently given the opportunity to redesign these name tags, and the new version has just started being distributed to local cast members. “The singular, golden star above Cinderella Castle represents our cast who are the guiding light of the Walt Disney World Resort,” said Joshua, “while the field of stars represents that little sprinkling of pixie dust our cast carry while making magic for our guests.”
Disney Parks Blog said, “The dreamy, misty blues were also inspired by the color palette from the Disney classic animated film, ‘Cinderella.’ For the finishing touch, the nametag also features a glossy finish over the stars for a little glint and sparkle when the light catches.”
Walt Disney World cast can also celebrate their new nametag with a unique interactive lens thanks to some magic from Disney PhotoPass Service and Tinker Bell! See one cast member enjoy the experience below:
