A young woman was caught on video taking matters into her own hands and exiting Splash Mountain at Disneyland by jumping out of her moving log vehicle while having a panic attack.
Guest Climbs Out of Splash Mountain Log
TikTok user Fatima Yusuf Wright (@fatimamusic786) was filming some of her ride on Splash Mountain when she happened to see the other guest exit her log and walk along a nearby platform. Wright yelled, “What are you doing?” The guest exiting said she was about to have a panic attack as she headed down a maintenance staircase and out of sight.
In the second half of the video, Wright filmed the ride as it was briefly stopped. She wrote in her caption that the video was taken this weekend on Splash Mountain at Disneyland, which will close permanently at the end of the day today.
Climbing out of a ride vehicle while it is in motion is dangerous and could result in serious injuries, especially on a water ride with slippery surfaces. It could also result in being banned from Disneyland Resort. Thankfully, the guest in the video appeared unharmed. It’s unknown if she was caught by Cast Members or banned.
Splash Mountain & Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
Splash Mountain first opened at Disneyland in July 1989. The attraction will close permanently tonight, May 30, to be transformed into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which is expected to open in 2024.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure takes place after the events of “The Princess and the Frog.” Tiana’s Foods is an employee-owned community food co-op established by Tiana in 1927, following the success of her restaurant, Tiana’s Palace. The co-op is housed inside a salt mine, with growers planting crops along the old Splash Mountain waterway. Guests will ascend through a mill house built into the side of the mountain.
The Splash Mountain landscaping will be updated to make it look more like a Louisiana bayou. The iconic tree that was included in the original concept art will be removed as it doesn’t fit the new backstory.
The attraction will follow Tiana venturing into the bayou to find animal friends. She’s hosting a party for the people of New Orleans, but it’s missing a special ingredient. Some of the original cast will be providing their voices to the attraction, including Anika Noni Rose (Tiana), Bruno Campos (Naveen), Michael Leon Wooley (Louis), and Jennifer Lewis (Mama Odie).
Every year, the Environmental Art Challenge invites cast members from the Disneyland Resort to compete in a recycling challenge. The competition encourages the cast to “reuse items found in their areas to create amazing works of art, inspiring others by bringing their love of Disney and the environment together,” says Disney Parks Blog.
The winners of this year’s event, Jodi Ferron and Katie Taylor, created something beautiful that has to be seen to be believed. When I think about a recycling art competition, I can’t help but think of empty toilet paper rolls and pipe cleaners, but of course, Disney does it better. Jodi and Katie created something worthy of its own figurine on shopDisney.com and so cleverly constructed from items like colored pencils. Very impressive!
“Disneyland Resort sketch artists Jodi Herron and Katie Taylor (above) used 1,923 colored pencils—representing the year The Walt Disney Company was founded—to create a mini replica sketch desk and take first place in this year’s Environmental Art Challenge.“
“Jodi and Katie’s creation was inspired by the Disney100 Celebration, depicting sketches of Mickey Mouse throughout the company’s history to commemorate its roots.“
At Disneyland Paris, today’s Disney Stars on Parade performance has been canceled due to the ongoing Cast Member strike. Cast Members are demanding better pay and working conditions.
Disney Stars on Parade Canceled
This morning and afternoon, Cast Members marched through both Disneyland Paris parks, leading to performances of the 30th anniversary cavalcade and show “Dream… and Shine Brighter” being canceled. By 6:00 p.m., Cast Members were sitting on Main Street, U.S.A., blocking the route of Disney Stars on Parade.
DLP Report shared a video of the striking Cast Members cheering when the parade’s cancellation was announced.
Cast Members have been striking since 9:00 a.m. local time. Disneyland Park is scheduled to close at 11:00 p.m. tonight (5:00 p.m. ET), while Walt Disney Studios Park will close at 10:00 p.m.
The next strike action is currently planned for Saturday, June 3. So far, Cast Members have been holding strikes on Tuesdays so they interfere less with guests and their vacations. As management continues to ignore their demands, they have decided to schedule a strike for the weekend.
Ongoing Cast Member Strikes
Disneyland Paris Cast Members have been trying to incite change in their pay and conditions for months. Just a few weeks ago, a performance of Disney Stars on Parade at Disneyland Paris was canceled at the last minute due to another Cast Member strike.
A week ago, the union held a strike on Main Street, U.S.A. in Disneyland Park. Guests arriving at Disneyland Paris in the morning were directed to the arcades to reach their destinations, and some believed a show was about to start since the area was being kept clear. As the demonstration continued, guests were able to see the Cast Members chanting for change. One performance of the “Dream… Shine Brighter” Parade was canceled due to Cast Members demonstrating in this space.
Another similar situation occurred at Disneyland Paris back in February when protests against unequal pay caused one performance of “Dream…and Shine Brighter” to go on without any characters and another performance to be completely canceled.
You can watch a full performance of “Dream…and Shine Brighter” below.
