Why You DON’T Want To Use Mobile Order in Disney World

Mobile Order — it’s a blessing and a curse.

Mobile Order Sign

Being able to order food from anywhere in Disney World and being able to grab it later makes mealtimes quick and easy. You could order your lunch while waiting in line for one ride, and grab it while on your way to another! However, there are a few reasons why ordering via mobile order is not ideal in many scenarios.

When using mobile order, you order based on the menu that is shown for the restaurant online and in the Disney World app. The problem with this is that the online menus can be inconsistent and a bit unreliable.

Sometimes, Disney will still include items that are unavailable at the actual location. Other times, they won’t include available items being served that you could have ordered. Trust us, it’s pretty sad to go pick up your food and realize that you could have gotten something even tastier if you had known it existed!

Quick Service at Gaston’s Tavern

This happened to us just the other day. We were visiting Magic Kingdom and noticed that a treat — the Seaside Serenade drink —  was listed on the physical menu at Prince Eric’s Village Market, but it wasn’t included on the mobile order menu online. This is a limited-time treat that’s available now in honor of the release of The Little Mermaid, so it wasn’t yet included. This happens super often!

To avoid this, you can order in person at quick service locations so that you can speak to Cast Members and know for sure what’s on the menu. Plus, this can be a great way to discover new treats and snacks you might not have already known about — and you know we’re all about new snacks!!

Disney World Was NOT What You Expected Today

Something STRANGE happened in Disney World.

Main Street, U.S.A.

May 29th, 2023, marked the Memorial Day holiday in the United States, which can often bring BIG crowds to Disney World and other theme parks. While we did see some crowds and the Genie+ price increased to the highest it has been in weeks, the wait times in the parks were SURPRISING.

There were some fairly large crowds at the entrance to Magic Kingdom right when it opened.

Memorial Day MK crowds

But once inside the park, things weren’t all that bad. At least, people weren’t packed in like sardines, walking shoulder-to-shoulder to their next ride.

A look down Main Street, U.S.A.

At around 11:30AM on May 29th, we spotted a 65-minute wait for Haunted Mansion — fairly lengthy but only just over an hour, so not too bad. By 12:10PM, things were still looking pretty good. Is that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad we see with a 35-minute wait?!

And Pirates of the Caribbean at just 25 minutes?!

What about a trip on The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh with a wait of just 20 minutes…

…or a stop at the PeopleMover with just a 5-minute wait?! Sign us up!

Things at EPCOT weren’t bad either, with Spaceship Earth at 30 minutes, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure at under an hour, and only Test Track with a wait time of over an hour.

We checked the wait times again around 4:45PM, and still, things weren’t all that terrible.

Thunder Mountain was at a 15-minute wait(!!)…

…Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run was at a 25-minute wait…

©Disney

…and even the reopened Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster AND Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance had a wait of less than 60 minutes.

©Disney

The longest wait times were 80 minutes at Slinky Dog Dash, 90 minutes at Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, and 115 minutes at Avatar Flight of Passage.

©Disney

That’s not to say there weren’t any crowds at all, but our reporters shared that the parks (especially Magic Kingdom) felt much emptier than they expected.

Disney did note that they anticipate some park results would be “unfavorable” in this back half of their fiscal year compared to last year since the 50th Anniversary celebration has ended. And it’s possible that Disney also more heavily limited Park Pass availability today, though none of the Park Passes filled up. It’s also possible that people were taking advantage of this day to fly home before work begins again on Tuesday.

PHOTOS: New Directional Signage Appears Near Car Care Center at Walt Disney World

New directional traffic signage has been appearing all over Walt Disney World, and today we noticed this new sign near the Car Care Center beside Magic Kingdom.

New Sign Near Car Care Center

The blue sign can be seen by cars exiting the Car Care Center near the entrance of Magic Kingdom. It matches the other blue signage we have seen across the resort replacing the iconic purple and red signs. This sign points motorists to turn right to “Guest Areas.” A Mickey ear silhouette stands on top, with a right arrow in Mickey’s right ear.

The Car Care Center is a full-service automotive facility that offers auto repairs, roadside assistance, and car rentals for guests of Walt Disney World. It offers complimentary shuttle service to the Transportation and Ticket Center, which additionally provides complimentary transportation to the various theme parks and resorts.

Other Walt Disney World Traffic Signage Installations

Another new sign has been installed on the westbound portion of Buena Vista Drive. It stands at the intersection of the aforementioned Drive and Esplanade Ave; the same intersection where motorists turn left to enter Disney’s Riviera Resort.

Orange and blue marker flags dot the grass in the median. These flags are indicators for construction crews of what utilities can be found underground. An orange utility flag typically stands for phone and telecommunication lines, alarm or signal lines, cables or conduits, and fiber optics. A blue utility flag typically stands for potable (drinking) water.

This section of Buena Vista Drive runs between Disney’s Riviera Resort and the back side of EPCOT. Just beyond the treeline on the driver’s right-hand side is the back of World Showcase. As you continue westbound you’ll find directional signage that directs motorists to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, ESPN Wide World of Sports, and the EPCOT Resort area.

While this new digital sign is not yet active, it appears that its construction is complete. It could be utilized for a variety of purposes. It may be implemented for traffic updates, park status updates, or even as a digital exit sign.

Over the past year, we’ve been witnessing the old purple and red exit signs from the 1990s being replaced with blue and gold signage. Now, we are starting to see a surge of more digital signs with the blue background take over.

This digital sign was installed over southbound World Drive at Walt Disney World Resort earlier this month. It is the largest digital sign installed at Walt Disney World Resort so far, and spans almost the entire width of the road.

The stretch of roadway the sign occupies rests between Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. Now that the sign is operating, it informs guests that all three lanes lead to the EPCOT Resort Area, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The side of the screen points to the next right for EPCOT and Disney Springs.

Stripes across the digital screen only appear in photos — the signs are much easier to read in person. Most of the words are white, but “all three lanes” is in yellow. “Next right” is on a bright yellow rectangle with a white arrow.

In late March, another new digital sign was installed on World Drive North near the Blizzard Beach and Animal Kingdom Resort area exit.

In February, we also spotted a digital sign that popped up at the end of the ramp from Buena Vista Drive to World Drive, just before the EPCOT exit.

All of these digital signs will make it easier for Disney to update directions during road closures, construction, and other changes.

Have you been noticing some of these changes and additions to the Walt Disney World network of roads? Let us know in the comments.

Why You NEED the Google Translate App in Disney World

We talk a lot about the hidden secrets you might find lurking around Disney World — but we think we may have found something to top it all (at least for now!)

Tree of Life

One of the best parts about Disney World is that multiple different cultures are represented throughout the parks. But, if you’re not familiar with another language, certain signs might confuse you. Luckily, we think we may have something to share that’ll help you out!

Have you ever been wandering around Animal Kingdom or even EPCOT and wondered what phrases written in other languages might say? Hi, it’s us, we do that all the time. Take this Simba and Nala display at Animal Kingdom. It’s written in Swahili (which we don’t speak!), and while you could type it into Google to figure it out — who has the time for that?! Instead, just pop that bad boy right into the Google Translate app and you’ll have your answer in no time!

What does it say?

The app uses your phone camera and automatically detects the language using Google Lens, and translates it right in front of your very eyes! In this case, it says, “Can you feel the love tonight?”

Can you feel the love tonight?

Over here, we’ve got some statues of Russel and Dug from Up — but what does each statue say?

Russel and Dug

According to Google Translate, Russel’s statue says “Boy…”

Boy

…and shockingly, Dug’s statue says “Dog!”

Dog

We bet you could even use it over at EPCOT when you’re walking around the World Showcase! Need to find out what Le Cellier means? You can do that. Want to know what Teppan Edo translates to? You can probably do that too. Your next Disney World trip is about to be a whole lot more interesting — and we can’t wait to see what you discover!
