The HIDDEN Hotel Store Where You Can Make Your Own Disney-Scented Candle

If you’ve been to Disney World many times before, your house is probably overflowing with souvenirs from your trip.

100th merchandise display

If you’ve already got a solid collection of Minnie ears, your drawers are stuffed with Disney t-shirts, and you don’t have any room for more Loungefly bags…what do you buy on your next trip? Well, if you’re out of souvenir ideas, or you just want something new and unique to bring home, we’ve got the perfect souvenir for you!

If you’ve ever been to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, you might’ve noticed the bath products shop on the second floor of the main building — Basin White. This store offers a variety of bath bombs, soaps, shampoos, lip balms, and other natural products. There’s also a location in Disney Springs (Basin Fresh).

Basin White

But one thing that you may not know about is Basin White’s make-your-own-candle offering! This souvenir can be customized to the maker’s liking with different paraffin wax scents mixed together in a glass jar. These candles are $19.99 each or two for $35.

Make your own candle!

On its own, this might not seem too special, but here’s the kicker — the scents are all Disney-inspired! That’s right, you can make your own candle with a mix of your favorite Disney smells. There’s a little card available with a color code and scent notes for each of the waxes, but we, of course, had to sniff them ourselves to compare.

All the scents

The first two are clearly inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion. The Yo Ho! scent is reminiscent of gunpowder and reminds us of the showdown scene from the ride with Captain Barbosa. Ghosted doesn’t really smell like Haunted Mansion at all, but the notes of amber and musk go nicely together.

Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean inspired!

If you’re a fan of Soarin’ Around the World, then you NEED the Fijian Flight scented candle! This one reminds us exactly of that particular scent from the ride, as well as a bit of the smell you get while riding Flight of Passage. Lodge is reminiscent of Wilderness Lodge, and it smells exactly like a thick forest of trees.

Soarin and Wilderness Lodge

Our least favorite of the bunch (and the only one we didn’t really like) was Polynesian Escape. The name made us think that it would smell like the lobby at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, but it really just smelled kinda fruity and buttery. (Yeah, the butter was odd to us too!)

Polynesian Escape

Back when Soarin’ was Soarin’ Over California, many associated the smell of Orange Groves with the ride, and that particular wax option is strong and accurate. Pineapple Float smells like a delicious Dole Whip on a hot day!

These will get your tummy rumbling

Isn’t It Grand reminds us of the Grand Floridian lobby faintly, while Sweet Shop smells like a cupcake in the Main Street Confectionery. Resort is a fresh and clean scent that makes us think of a brand-new hotel room.

The final three

So if you’re interested in making your own Disney-inspired candle, you know where to go! As far as Disney souvenirs go, this one isn’t too expensive…plus it’s fun! We’ll keep you in the loop if we find any more fun souvenirs we think you’ll be interested in.

Universal Orlando Resort Testing Guest Experience Improvements at Hogwarts Express

Universal Orlando Resort is testing guest experience improvements, including new speaker announcements, on the Hogwarts Express in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Hogwarts Express Announcements

hogwarts-express-may-2021-b-2

Previously, after guests boarded the Hogwarts Express, a porter would go to each cabin and give guests the safety spiel, telling them to remain seated, pointing out the switch under a seat for emergencies, and closing the door.

Today, we were loaded into a Hogwarts Express cabin and the porter immediately closed the door. A Team Member then made the safety announcement over a speaker to all cabins at once.

A Team Member told us that they are currently testing the speaker announcements, which could speed up the entire process. He also indicated there may be more improvements to look out for in the near future.

The Hogwarts Express is both an attraction and transportation, connecting Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure via The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The train is a unique experience in each direction, with different characters and locations appearing on the window screens in the cabins. Guests also see the silhouettes and hear the voices of different characters through the frosted glass of their cabin doors.

The two Wizarding Worlds at Universal Orlando Resort are Hogsmeade in Universal’s Islands of Adventure and Diagon Alley in Universal Studios Florida. A third Wizarding World inspired by Place Cachée, as seen in “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald,” is rumored for Epic Universe. Check out a recent Epic Universe construction update featuring a look at Place Cachée.

Epic Universe has contracted some firms that previously worked on The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, the main attraction of Hogsmeade at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, will temporarily close for refurbishment in June.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade also exists with slight variations at Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Studios Japan, and Universal Studios Beijing. All versions of Hogsmeade include Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and family coaster Flight of the Hippogriff, which was originally a re-skin of The Lost Continent’s Flying Unicorn. The Ollivanders Experience is also available in all versions of Hogsmeade.

In Universal’s Islands of Adventure, guests can ride Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, a large roller-coaster that replaced Dragon Challenge, which was in turn a re-skin of Dueling Dragons.

New Magical Creatures experiences, including a Hippogriff encounter, recently debuted at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Studios Japan. The Japanese version of the land also includes the Black Lake.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley, unique to Universal Studios Florida, is headlined by Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts. It also features live performances of The Tales of Beedle the Bard and Celestina Warbeck and the Banshees.

Guests can dine at the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade or The Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley. Both serve traditional British dishes like fish and chips.
