You see, there’s a big new coaster that opened up at Fun Spot Atltana (which we’ll talk about in the future) that I just had to experience. So while there, I […]

We love a good Easter Egg… and no, we’re not talking about the chocolate kind the festive bunny leaves around every Spring (though we love those, too).
Art of Animation
We’re talking about Disney Easter Eggs — whether they’re in the parks or in the films, it’s so fun to see how creative the Disney Imagineers can be!
Today, we’re gonna dig into all of the fun hidden secrets and Easter Eggs scattered throughout the Pixar Cars film franchise. That’s right, we’re looking at the whole movie series to find some of the most fun nods to Disney and Pixar you can spot hidden among the plot points!
Ratatouille Reference
In Cars 2 (2011), in Paris you can see a restaurant called “Gastow’s.”
This is a tribute to the former CEO of Pixar, Steve Jobs. The number 84 is also significant and was chosen because it was the year the first Apple computers began selling.
Mike and Sully Cameo
Yet another Pixar crossover experience happens in Pixar’s movie short, Cars Toons – Tokyo Mater (2008).
Mater drives through a Japanese restaurant where Mike Wazowski and James ‘Sully’ Sullivan from Pixar’s Monsters Inc. (2001) can be seen in monster truck form.
Car Country
It seems only fitting that in this automotive universe, the geography would fit the plot.
In the Cars (2006) universe, instead of Stone Henge, there is Cone Henge.
Bumpy Roads
In Cars (2006), Lightning McQueen’s body shakes much more than Mater’s because McQueen is a racecar with firmer suspension, which means the bumpy roads make him shake more aggressively than normal cars that have softer suspension.
Punch Buggy
No detail is too small for the animators and storytellers at Pixar.
In Cars (2006), the Lightyear tires used by the race cars are an obvious reference to Buzz Lightyear. The more subtle detail is that they are listed as being from ‘Sector 4, Gamma Quadrant’ where Buzz said he was stationed in the first Toy Story movie.
Home Sweet Home
The actual Pixar Studios makes a cameo appearance.
In Cars (2006), the clouds are shaped like tire tracks. It’s such a subtle detail that it’s easy to overlook, but its addition really enhances the depth of the story emersion.
Mountain Range
If you’re not gazing into the sky, you might not be looking too closely at the mountains in the background, either.
If this sounds familiar, it’s the brand of gum in Inside Out (2015), that keeps coming up in Riley’s memories.
A113
Disney and Pixar animators have fun hiding references to A113, a classroom at CalArts where many of them completed animation courses, somewhere in their films.
In Toy Story, the Dinoco gas station is where Buzz and Woody almost get stranded before they hitch a ride with the Pizza Planet truck.
Those are some of our favorite hidden Easter Eggs in the Cars films! Keep checking back with DFB for more fun posts like this and other Disney news and tips!

We spotted some new décor themed after the upcoming live-action version of “The Little Mermaid” at the AMC in Disney Springs at World Disney World.
New “The Little Mermaid” Decorations for Disney Springs AMC
A new banner for “The Little Mermaid” has been hung just next to Everglazed Donuts & Cold Brew.
The poster features Ariel, King Triton, and a shadowy Ursula in the background. The movie releases in theaters this Friday on May 26.
A series of banners highlighting the main characters flanks both sides of a new blue carpet that reads: “Disney ‘The Little Mermaid’ May 26.”
Live-Action Ariel Meet and Greet Locations in Disney Parks
Disney has also hired actors to portray the live-action version of Ariel in Disney Parks for a new meet and greet experience. We aren’t sure if this will be a permanent addition or if it’s just to celebrate the movie’s release.
At Disneyland Paris, Ariel will appear in a limited-time “celebration,” which will possibly begin on May 26 as well.
Ariel at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
An Ariel meet and greet will open at Walt Disney Presents in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where Sulley from “Monsters, Inc.” used to appear (he can now be found at Pixar Place). For a limited time, a sneak peek and props from the film will be available at the Walt Disney Presents Theater.
Ariel at Disneyland Park
Ariel will greet Disneyland guests on the promenade near “it’s a small world.”
About the Live-Action ‘The Little Mermaid’ Production
Oscar-nominated Rob Marshall, known for his work with “Chicago” and Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns,” directs “The Little Mermaid.” The remake stars Halle Bailey as mermaid princess Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian the crab, Awkwafina as diving bird Scuttle, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Javier Bardem as King Triton, and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula. Noma Dumezweni will portray the new character Queen Selina, Eric’s mother.
“The Little Mermaid” will be released in theaters on May 26, 2023. Bailey and Jodi Benson, who voiced the animated Ariel, united at the film’s premiere.
This wasn’t the first time that Bailey and Benson had interacted. According to the LA Times, Benson makes an on-land cameo in the film and was on set for the filming of “The Little Mermaid.” Benson was a source of on-set support for Bailey. “She told me how proud she was of me and how I’m handling everything, and encouraged me to just go for it,” Bailey said regarding Benson. “I appreciate her for being so warm and welcoming to me because she’s the GOAT, and it was important to me to get her stamp of approval.”
Take a look at some of the live-action-inspired merchandise for “The Little Mermaid” now available at Walt Disney World Resort:
